Joe Rogan's podcast has fallen from its top spot on Spotify in the US.

The Joe Rogan Experience has faced backlash for years, with the host accused of racism and spreading misinformation about coronavirus.

While Rogan responded by promising listeners he would 'do better,' his podcast has since been knocked from the top of Spotify's US charts.

Rising to the top instead is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Studios and Spotify Studios: Batman Unburied.

It's the first podcast to come out of a licensing deal between the platform and production company agreed upon in 2021, with the intentions of expanding the DC universe into the world of podcasts.

The podcast was created by David S. Goyer who wrote the screenplays for Christopher Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Batman Unburied has now overtaken The Joe Rogan Experience on Spotify's US Podcast Charts.

The synopsis reads: "A serial killer known as The Harvester terrorizes Gotham City, but Batman is not coming to the rescue. In fact, Bruce Wayne has no memory of being the Caped Crusader at all. Instead, Bruce is a forensic pathologist, performing the autopsy on the latest victim when he’s attacked by the killer himself.

"As Bruce’s obsession with the Harvester consumes him, Dr. Thomas Wayne, head of Gotham City Hospital, orders his son to take medical leave and seek treatment from an unusual psychologist, Dr. Hunter. With Batman missing in action, Detective Barbara Gordon is left with no other choice but to seek help from Gotham’s second smartest detective: The Riddler."

In the podcast, Winston Duke takes on the role of Batman, Hasan Minhaj the role of The Riddler and Gina Rodriguez voices Barbara Gordon.

There are significant differences between the podcast and what DC fans are used to seeing in the cinema, with Wayne taking on the role of a forensic pathologist and his parents not being dead.

The podcast first launched on 3 May with two episodes. New episodes of Batman Unburied are set to be released onto Spotify every Tuesday.

Chief Content and Advertising Business Officer for Spotify, Dawn Ostroff said: "With the global launch of Batman Unburied, we are excited to bring the iconic franchise and the legacy of Batman to our hundreds of millions of listeners around the world.

"Through our extraordinary partnership with Warner Bros. and DC, we have the unique opportunity to usher in a new era of the universally beloved DC Super Heroes through the world of audio, voiced by all-star casts.

"The power of podcasts has never been more evident than it is with David Goyer’s spine-chilling soundscape masterpiece that tells the transcendent story of the one and only Bruce Wayne."

Rogan's podcast reigned superior in 2021 coming in at number one not just in the US, but worldwide. However, it wasn't popular with everyone.

Neil Young called on Spotify to remove all of his music from its platform, telling the company they could have 'Rogan or Young. Not both,' accusing the host of spreading misinformation.

"Spotify has a responsibility to mitigate the spread of misinformation on its platform, though the company presently has no misinformation policy," the singer said.

Joni Mitchell swiftly followed suit and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle echoed similar concerns about the 'all too real consequences of Covid misinformation on its platform'.
