A coroner in Australia is set to investigate the passing of a teenage dancer who died just hours after being released from hospital following a suspected seizure.

Layla-Maria Grubb was just 18 years old when she died at her home in New South Wales, Australia, on July 19.

Described on a GoFundMe page as a 'dancing angel', Layla-Maria had been an active young woman who was studying full-time at the dance school Village Nation, in Sydney, after moving there from Western Australia three years ago.

However, on the morning of July 19 she was rushed to hospital in an ambulance.

According to The Daily Telegraph, the teen is believed to have suffered a seizure - the first she'd ever had.

Staff at the hospital seemingly deemed Layla-Maria well enough to return home soon after, but she was later found unresponsive.

Now her family are searching for answers, with the coroner's investigation intended to help shed light on exactly what happened.

In a statement to The Daily Telegraph, Layla-Maria's mom, Beth Ashton, said: “We are absolutely broken, there is nothing that can take this pain away … Life will never be the same."

Beth shared news of her daughter's death on Facebook, where she said her daughter had 'left us far too soon'.

She continued: “Layla-maria, brought so much joy, light, and love into the lives of everyone who knew her. A gorgeous dancer, who moved through life with the same beauty and passion she brought to the stage. Her laughter, kindness, and beautiful spirit will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

“Though her time with us was far too short, her impact will remain in our hearts, forever 18.”

The GoFundMe page has been set up to help Beth deal with the financial cost of her daughter's passing, as well as to give Layla-Maria 'the send-off she truly deserves'.

A spokesperson for NSW Health addressed Layla-Maria's death in a statement to The Daily Telegraph, saying: “The South Eastern Sydney Local Health District extends its sincere condolences to the family for their tragic loss.

“As this matter has been referred to the NSW Coroner, it is not appropriate to comment further.”

Briden Starr, the director of Village Nation, told the publication that those who knew Layla-Maria are desperate to find out what happened.

She said: “[Layla-Maria] was not a normal 18-year-old – she was a healthy, positive, focused girl. We all want to know what happened; we are searching for answers.”

A funeral service for the young dancer is set to take place at Eastern Suburbs memorial park in Sydney at 1.00pm on Friday (August 1). The event will also be live-streamed to the Mandurah Performing Arts Centre in WA, a stage where Layla-Maria had previously performed.
