It appears a number of Twitter executives are in the firing line now that Elon Musk has completed his takeover of the platform, but don't go getting your tiny violins out just yet.

Turns out they'll be receiving a mind-blowing severance pay if they're axed by the Tesla CEO.

Musk has had a tumultuous few months after announcing his bid to buy Twitter, having caused a lot of upset along the way, especially with his reported plans to lay off 75 percent of its workforce.

For a while it looked like the deal wouldn't go ahead, especially when he was embroiled in a legal battle after announcing his intentions of terminating his $44 billion takeover of the company.

But just at the last minute he managed to make it official.

Twitter investor Ross Gerber, chief executive of Gerber Kawasaki Investments in California, told the BBC that the deal is now done, stating: "I think the court pushed him over the line.

"Quite frankly, this has sort of been a disaster from the beginning, of course, starting off very aggressively courting Twitter in a way that really forced Twitter to the table... then getting all upset and having a public spat over what to me was pretty well known issues."

The billionaire's takeover of Twitter has been a drawn out process.

Since the news broke, a number of major US news outlets have reported that the SpaceX founder has already fired several top executives at the social media platform.

The New York Times, The Washington Post, CNN and others say Twitter’s chief executive Parag Agrawal, chief financial officer Ned Segal, top legal and policy executive Vijaya Gadde, and general counsel Sean Edgett have all been given the boot.

Although the news is yet to be confirmed, Insider recently shared regulatory filings that show the maddening amount of money those in the firing line would receive if they are sacked.

As it stands, Agrawal – who took over from co-founder Jack Dorsey in November 2021 and saw Musk turn on him as the deal unfolded – would receive the biggest payout of $38.7 million.

The outlet explained that this sum is largely due to his shares in the company.

Elsewhere, Segal would get a cool $25.4 million, while Gadde would receive $12.5 million.

As said, it's not yet confirmed whether the Twitter bosses have officially been fired. But if they have been, Musk will have a massive price to pay.
