Drake Bell’s wife Janet Von Schmeling files for divorce one week after missing person scare

The actor was reported as missing last week, with police concerned for his safety

Drake Bell’s wife has filed for divorce one week after he 'went missing'.

Court documents obtained by several news outlets reveal that Janet Von Schmeling is leaving the former Nickelodeon star.

The 28-year-old has reportedly cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the break-up.

As per the documents, Von Schmeling is also seeking primary legal and physical custody of their two-year-old son, Wyatt.

However, she has stated that Bell will be granted visitation rights.

News of the divorce comes a week after the 36-year-old was reported missing.

In a post to social media, Daytona Beach Police Department claimed that the actor, whose full name is Jared Drake Bell, had disappeared and was considered endangered.

He was said to be traveling in a 2022 grey BMW and was last thought to have been located in the area of Mainland High School on 12 April.

"He is considered missing and endangered," the force wrote on Facebook. "If you know where he is or have any information, please contact Detective Jayson Wallace at 386-671-5207 or [email protected]."

Understandably, the news shocked fans, who struggled to believe whether the department's post was serious, so much so that it was forced to follow up with a comment which read: "For those asking, this is a legitimate post from the Daytona Beach Police Department."

At the time, a source claimed the search for Bell began after family members became concerned about his whereabouts.

"There was some communication with family members that caused concern so they are worried about him and looking for him," the alleged insider told US Weekly.

Police shared the news of Bell's disappearance on Facebook.

They went on to claim that some of Bell's family members had no idea he was in Florida, where his estranged wife, Von Schemling, had moved with their young son.

Just a few hours after the initial missing person appeal, Daytona Beach Police Department added an update confirming Bell had been found.

"At this time, we can confirm law enforcement officials are in contact and Mr. Bell is safe," it read.

While they didn't share any information about where Bell had been located, the actor later shared a post of his own to imply his apparent disappearance wasn't actually as serious as people thought.

In a post to Twitter, he wrote: "You leave your phone in the car and don’t answer for the night and this?"

He didn't reveal any other details about where he was while the police were searching for him.
