Amanda Bynes has broken her silence after filing to end her nine-year conservatorship.

The actor – who made her breakthrough as a child on Nickelodeon – was first placed under a temporary conservatorship in August 2013, following mental health issues and struggles, substance abuse and legal problems - including being detained in July 2013 after allegedly starting a fire in a stranger's driveway.

Her mother received conservatorship again the year after, and in 2018 paperwork was submitted for it to continue until 2020.

Last September, it was extended until March 2023, but the 35-year-old has now filed to bring it to an end.

Sharing a message with her fans on Instagram, she said: "What's up Instagram, Amanda Bynes here.

"My court date is coming up in two weeks. I want to thank you all so much for your love and support. Peace out."

It comes after her lawyer, David A. Esquibias, said last month that she feels her condition has improved.

He told PEOPLE: "Amanda wishes to terminate her conservatorship.

"She believes her condition is improved and protection of the court is no longer necessary."

Meanwhile, Tamar Arminak - an attorney for Bynes' parents - said they support her decision.

She told NBC News: "The professionals say she is ready to make her own life choices and decisions and are so proud of her.

"They 100% support her decision to end the conservatorship."

In 2018, the former star of The Amanda Show told Paper that she had been sober for four years with the help of her parents.

Referring to a string of concerning social media posts, Bynes said: "I'm really ashamed and embarrassed with the things I said.

"I can't turn back time but if I could, I would. And I'm so sorry to whoever I hurt and whoever I lied about because it truly eats away at me. It makes me feel so horrible and sick to my stomach and sad.

"Everything I worked my whole life to achieve, I kind of ruined it all through Twitter. It's definitely not Twitter's fault - it's my own fault.

"I've been through the worst and came out the other end and survived it so I just feel like it's only up from here."
