Taylor Swift is the most listened to artist in the world on Spotify after overtaking The Weeknd

She has cemented her spot on top of the streaming throne.

There's no denying Taylor Swift is one of the biggest music superstars in the world at the moment.

Her Eras tour and its accompanying movie has been dominating at the box office, her 1989 Taylor's Version is killing it on streams and vinyl sales, and she's become the golden star of the NFL after dating Travis Kelce.

However, she can now add another accolade to her growing trophy cabinet.

The 33-year-old has finally overtaken The Weeknd to have the most monthly listeners on Spotify.

She has been hot on the heels of the Canadian singer for months and the re-release of her incredible and career-defining 2014 album has helped push her over the line.

Swift now commands a jaw-dropping 105.335 million monthly listeners on the platform.

By comparison, The Weeknd draws in 105.091 million listeners.

These two are well above the rest of the competition.

Drake is in third place and has 86.5 million people who tune in every month to listen to his raps.

Bad Bunny is close to toppling the Toronto rapper as he brings in 84.4 million monthly listeners.

While Rihanna is the fifth person on the list and she has 78.3 million monthly listeners.

It's wild to think that Swift and The Weeknd are tens of millions of listeners in front of some of the biggest superstars on the planet.

And yet here we are.

Swift's re-record of 1989 was the most single-day streamed album of the year so far on Spotify, and she was the most streamed artist in a single day as well.

Taylor already had that first record when she released Midnights last year. However, the re-record of 1989 managed to topple that.

After the album dropped, the vault track 'Slut!' climbed to the top of the charts in the US with more than five million streams.

While her song 'Style' managed to reach number one internationally.

According to Variety, Spotify’s daily US top 50 ranking had all 21 songs from 1989 Taylor's Version occupy the top 21 positions on the chart last weekend.

The 33-year-old sent a message to her fans after 1989 was released to the masses last week.

She said: "I was born in 1989, reinvented for the first time in 2014, and a part of me was reclaimed in 2023 with the re-release of this album I love so dearly.

"Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine the magic you would sprinkle on my life for so long.

"This moment is a reflection of the woods we've wandered through and all this love between us still glowing in the darkest dark.

"I present to you, with gratitude and wild wonder, my version of 1989.

"It's been waiting for you."
