Tinashe leaves people mind-blown after revealing she was the little girl in The Polar Express

Who knew the pop star got her start making a true Christmas classic?

Get ready to deck the halls and gorge on chocolate and mulled wine for 31 days straight because Christmas is fast approaching.

And what better companion to your festive feasting than a classic Christmas film?

The Polar Express quickly became a holiday favourite and a staple every Christmas, ever since it premiered in 2004 (feel old yet?).

The animated masterpiece tells the story of a young boy who boards a magical train that's heading to the North Pole on Christmas Eve.

It famously stars Tom Hanks, who voices a number of the film's iconic characters, but also features an unexpected performer as one of the children.

Almost 20 years after its release, pop singer, Tinashe recently opened up about playing Hero Girl (well, sort of) during an interview on the Zach Sang Show.

The 30-year-old, who released her sixth studio album BB/ANG3L last week, said: “I was the motion cap… We shot it right here at the Paramount lot... I was in fourth grade and we had to come in everyday and wear these big motion capture suits.

"It was in the very early days of mo-cap technology, so it took them like four years to animate it, and if you watch that movie, the animation is so weird now. It’s crazy that it took them that long to make something that looks so weird.”

She continued: “We had all the little dots and the electrodes. It was a really cool experience, working with Tom Hanks.

"And also, what was really cool, was because we weren’t actually on real sets, it was all in a studio, and they would build the sets out of wires, so that they could see through the walls or the floor or whatever so they could… Because pretty much all they’re capturing is the information they’re getting from the electrodes on your outfit."

Fans were mindblown to find out Tinashe played Hero Girl.

“So, yeah, it was all very make believe-y, because, you know, a lot of times when you’re acting, you’re in a real room, or in a real space and you can get a little bit more into character that way. But this was like, we’re really pretending. Like, this is a train made out of wires, you know,” Tinashe explained.

“We were reading the lines, but then they re-recorded all of the audio, so it was like we acted out the entire movie and created the entire film, you know, with no dialogue, and then they dubbed the whole thing."

Based on the comments on TikTok, many of us had no idea she'd been involved in the making of such an iconic film.

One person wrote, "THAT WAS HER?!?!!"

"Ain’t no way I’m finding this out now," said another.

A third added, "I LOVE TINASHE HOW DID I NOT KNOW."
