21 Jump Street creators look to have made another comedy classic

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller have produced a comedy about a stray dog looking for revenge.

The makers of 21 Jump Street have unleashed a wild new comedy about a dog who is hellbent on getting revenge on his owner.

Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, who directed the Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill-starring film and its sequel 22 Jump Street, have produced Strays, an upcoming comedy with a truly mind-blowing plot.

The film follows an adorable and scruffy dog named Reggie who has a really awful owner named Doug who tries to abandon his four-legged companion numerous times, but Reggie always seems to find his way back home.

But one night, Doug succeeds in permanently parting ways with Reggie, who is left wondering the streets alone with just a tennis ball to call his own.

He eventually meets a group of other strays and the pack decides to get revenge on Doug by biting his penis off.

Yep, you heard that right.

As they make their way to Doug's house, Reggie experiences a range of wild scenarios from being taught how to hump objects to experiencing his first magic mushroom trip.

The R-rated comedy has an all-star voice cast, including Will Ferrell as the voice of Reggie and Jamie Foxx, Randall Park and Isla Fisher as stray dogs Bug, Hunter, and Maggie respectively.

Will Forte, who starred in the sitcom The Last Man on Earth, which was also produced by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller, stars as Reggie’s owner Doug.

The cast also includes Josh Gad, Harvey Guillén, Rob Riggle, Jamie Demetriou, Brett Gelman and Sofia Vergara.

Filming began in September 2021 in Atlanta, Georgia and wrapped in December the same year.

And following the release of the trailer on Wednesday (8 February), it has gone viral on social media.

One person joked: “Oh wow why did I think this was a ‘dogs go crazy and start killing everyone movie’.”

While another viewer referenced the Elizabeth Banks-directed flick Cocaine Bear, which is about an American black bear that goes on a killing rampage after ingesting a bug full of cocaine.

They wrote: “Cocaine Bear: ‘I'm the craziest animal movie coming out this year.’

“Strays: ‘Hold my beer...’."

And another film fan tweeted: “This actually looks hilarious.”

"I feel like everyone needs whatever Universal is on, because they've had some really wild movies lately," shared a movie fanatic.

Strays will be released 9 June 2023.
