The first trailer for a new Marvel series has finally dropped and it looks like Samuel L. Jackson will be back as Nick Fury one last time.

The BAFTA-winning actor, 74, will star in the series which is set in the present-day MCU where he’ll become privy to an invasion of shape-shifting Skrulls who are threatening to take over the world.

The official synopsis gives us a slightly greater idea of the high stakes Nick Fury faces in the series but he’ll thankfully be joined by a few allies along the way.

“In Secret Invasion, set in the present-day MCU, Fury learns of a clandestine invasion of Earth by a faction of shapeshifting Skrulls.

“Fury joins his allies, including Everett Ross, Maria Hill, and the Skrull Talos, who has made a life for himself on Earth. Together they race against time to thwart an imminent Skrull invasion and save humanity.”

No pressure!

Secret Invasion has an impressive cast who we see in the foreboding trailer, including Ben Mendelsohn, Emilia Clarke, Olivia Colman, Don Cheadle, Martin Freeman, Kingsley Ben-Adir, Charlayne Woodard, Killian Scott, Samuel Adewunmi, Cobie Smulders, Dermot Mulroney, Christopher McDonald and Katie Finneran.

The trailer raises some interesting questions which will surely be answered over the course of the six-episode adventure. Viewers will be Mendelsohn’s Talos inform Fury that things have become a lot worse since he travelled to space. Fans will recall the Spider-Man: Far From Home post—credits scene which revealed Fury was working with the Skrulls, suggesting that they’re not all bad – only the ones who want to take over Earth.

Marvel’s certified bad*ss, Nick Fury will take on the Skrulls in ‘one last fight’. Take from that what you will.

Marvel gave fans a first look at the hotly anticipated series, Secret Invasion, during ESPN’s Sunday Night Baseball last night. Fans online are already showering the trailer with the utmost praise as the premiere date draws closer.

“This is what the MCU needs, the tone is serious and consistent throughout every trailer,” one fan praised.

Similarly, another commenter wrote: “I love when Marvel leans onto these serious matters, the gritty action sequences, the politics within the MCU. That’s why for me Winter Soldier and Civil War were so different than the rest. And hopefully Fury doesn’t die.”

A third shared: “I honestly need a serious series like this. I hope there are no plot holes for this one.”

While a fourth opined: “This doesn’t even feel like an MCU show, I love it.”
