Scream creator Kevin Williamson wants Neve Campbell to return to franchise

Scream creator Kevin Williamson is holding out hope that Neve Campbell will return to the iconic film franchise one day.

Campbell was nowhere to be seen in Scream VI earlier this year, leading to many fans being left disappointed that Sidney Prescott was not present.

Back in June 2022, Campbell announced she would not be returning for the sixth Scream movie, citing a low financial offer as the main reason she decided against returning.

However, she explained in a statement at the time that deciding not to return to the franchise was a 'very difficult decision'.

"As a woman I have had to work extremely hard in my career to establish my value, especially when it comes to Scream," she said.

"I felt the offer that was presented to me did not equate to the value I have brought to the franchise... It's been a very difficult decision to move on.

"To all my Scream' fans, I love you. You've always been so incredibly supportive to me. I'm forever grateful to you and to what this franchise has given me over the past 25 years."

And recently Williamson spoke about Campbell's departure from the franchise on an episode of the Happy Horror Time podcast.

While the creator acknowledges why Campbell did not feature in Scream VI, he hopes she will make a return one day.

Speaking of the pay dispute The Craft star had with the studio, Williamson said: "I totally respect her opinion. I know exactly where she’s coming from. I know her well.

"I love and adore her, and that’s what she did. It’s right for her."

But if negotiations can head down the right path for Campbell to return as Sidney Prescott again in the future, then Williamson is all for it.

He continued: "I love everyone involved in Scream and all I can say is pay her the money. That’s what I would do, I would give her the [money].

"I’m sure there’s a number they can agree on that will make them both happy. So hopefully one day they will figure that all out."

And Campbell herself also hasn't shut down the possibility of returning, telling People last year that she doesn't know if she's 'done for good' just yet.

"It would really depend on what they came to me with next. It would have to be different." she said.

"It would have to be a different attitude, and I'm not sure that's going to happen."
