Martin Scorsese reveals Leonardo DiCaprio had major clash with Robert De Niro on set of new movie

Martin Scorsese reveals Leonardo DiCaprio had major clash with Robert De Niro on set of new movie

Actors can often have different styles, but De Niro had an issue with one part in particular

There are a lot of different styles of acting, from the old school Laurence Olivier style to more modern film acting.

Films can often have an interesting creative process, and sometimes actors like to bring their own creativity to a script.

But sometimes, it feels like they can take things a bit too far. At least, that's what Martin Scorsese has claimed happened between Robert De Niro and Leonardo Dicaprio.

All three men had been working on Scorsese's new project Killers of the Flower Moon.

This saw De Niro and Dicaprio acting opposite one another.

The pair first acted together some 30 years ago in 1993's This Boy's Life.

And it seems that one aspect of Dicaprio's way of working ended up becoming a bit difficult for De Niro.

And that part - you might have guessed - was his improv.

Improv can be a good way for actors to play with a scene and to get some different perspectives on it, and Dicaprio has been known for it in the past.

For example, on the set of Django Unchained, Dicaprio actually injured his hand smashing a prop skull, but worked it into his performance, much to Kerry Washington's surprise we're sure.

But it seems on this occasion, the improv went a bit too far for De Niro.

Asked about Dicaprio's propensity for improv, Scorsese said: “oh, [it was] endless, endless, endless!”

He continued: “Then Bob didn’t want to talk. Every now and then, Bob and I would look at each other and roll our eyes a little bit.

“And we’d tell him, ‘You don’t need that dialogue'.”

Both De Niro and Dicaprio have developed strong working relationships with Scorsese over the years. Dicarpio was cast in the gangster epic Gangs of New York and the financial drama The Wolf of Wall Street. Meanwhile De Niro has, of course, built up a huge repertoire alongside Scorsese, including iconic films such as Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and Goodfellas.

When De Niro and Dicarpio first worked together on This Boy's Life in 1993, Dicaprio was still a teenager.

The star of The Godfather Part 2 had reportedly been so impressed with Dicaprio's performance that he had personally recommended him to Scorsese.

Killers of the Flower Moon will follow the story of the Osage Nation, an indigenous community who became rich from oil at the turn of the 20th century.

The Osage were then targeted by white interlopers who cheated, manipulated, and murdered their way to the Osage's oil money.

It will be released in theaters on 20 October.
