Theresa Nist has spoken out about her relationship with Gerry Turner after the pair announced their divorce just three months after marrying on The Golden Bachelor.

Nist and Turner shocked fans when they announced the news of their divorce on Good Morning America last week, saying they had decided to go their separate ways despite still feeling 'love' for one another.

The news came just months after the couple first met on the spinoff of the popular dating show The Bachelor late last year.

After Turner got to know Nist more and more, they decided to take their romance to the next step by getting married in a televised ceremony in January.

Fast forward to last week, and the couple said that after 'a number of heart-to-heart conversations', it was time for them to 'dissolve' the marriage.

Nist has since taken to Instagram to share more of her thoughts on the divorce and to share her appreciation for those who have shown 'love, support and kindness' to her in the wake of the news.

In a lengthy caption on the platform, she wrote: "For everyone else who is confused and angry and who does not understand, please try to find it in your heart to understand and to try a little kindness. Not just for me but for the world and for everyone you encounter."

Nist described her time with Turner as 'one of the most incredible experiences of [her] life', adding it was 'something [she] never expected to happen at this point' in her life.

"I truly thought it was going to last forever. It turns out, even at the age of 70, you don’t know everything," she continued.

"Sometimes things don’t go the way you planned and that’s okay. I take so many positives away from this experience, most importantly and above all the incredible friends I now have in all of these amazing, wonderful women and in Angie and Jenny, Payton and Charlee, the producers, the production crew and so many of you.

"I ask you to please stay open to all the experiences, opportunities, and love that may come your way. Keep smiling, keep laughing… I will. I love you all."

Nist shared the caption alongside a quote from Dr. Seuss, reading: "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened."

Nist's comments come after she implied on Good Morning America that the pair had split as they struggled to agree on a place to live.

"We looked at homes in South Carolina, we considered New Jersey, and we just looked at homes after home. But we never got to the point where we made that decision," she said.

Turner agreed, saying: "We just feel like it’s best for the happiness of each of us to live apart."
