Fans have been treated to a first look at the Dune prequel, Dune: Prophecy.

Set 10,000 before the birth of Paul Atreides [portrayed by Timothée Chalamet in the films], the TV series follows the Harkonnen sisters, Valya and Tula, as they battle forces that threaten humanity's future and establish the Bene Gesserit sect. See the trailer here:

Like the films, the TV series boasts an impressive cast made up on the likes of Emily Watson as Valya Harkonnen, and Kingsman favorite Mark Strong, who portrays the character of Emperor Javicco Corrino.

The series, based on the book Sisterhood of Dune, was first commissioned in 2019 under the name of Dune: The Sisterhood.

Season one will be made up of six episodes, as per The Hollywood Reporter.

Director Johan Renck was initially tied to the series, but Anna Foerster has since taken his place.

Despite the changes, it's still said to be on track to be released in late 2024 on Max (formerly HBO Max).

An official release date is yet to be revealed.

The TV series comes after the huge success of Dune: Part Two.

As of April 2024, the movie was nearing $700 million at the global box office - which will come as a relief to Warner Bros. who is said to have splurged $190 million to produce and another $100 million to promote worldwide.

It was reported by THR that Warner Bros. needed to take in $500 million to break even.

As well as its financial success, the film received critical acclaim and currently boasts a 95 percent Audience Score on Rotten Tomatoes, as well as 92 percent of its Tomatometer.

One person who knows first hand how good the film is is Dune superfan Mac J - AKA 'The Dune Guy'.

Mac has reportedly seen the movie 30 times in the cinema.

Speaking to UNILAD about his love of the Dune franchise, Mac said: "I read the books when I was in like eighth grade. It's just been such a super important book and franchise to me.

"I’ve been waiting for this movie for so long, and it's just like cathartic almost.”

In regards to the first Dune movie, Mac says he's watched it a staggering 200 times.

"I have the entire script memorised," he shared with us. "I could do the entire thing for you right now if you wanted."

I mean, I guess that's one skill to put on your CV.
