Netflix has dropped the first trailer for its Spy Kids reboot.

The millennials among us will have fond memories of Robert Rodriguez’s original 2001 kids film, which saw the children of super spies, Gregorio and Ingrid Cortez (Antonio Banderas and Carla Gugino), follow in their parents' footsteps when mum and dad are kidnapped.

There have since been three sequels: 2002's Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams, 2003's Spy Kids 3-D: Game Over and 2011's Spy Kids: All the Time in the World.

Now, over a decade on from the last movie, we're being introduced to a whole new generation of secret agents in Spy Kids: Armageddon.

Mum and dad are now played by Shazam!'s Zachary Levi and Someone Great's Gina Rodriguez, while the kids are Everly Carganilla and Connor Esterson.

Bond alum Billy Magnussen, who played villainous double agent Logan Ash in No Time To Die, will also star in the reboot in an as-yet-undisclosed role.

Rodriguez is back to direct, and this time around he's written the script with his son, Racer Max.

This isn't the pair's first collaboration. At the tender age of seven, Racer helped his dad come up with another nostalgic classic: 2005's The Adventure of Sharkboy and Lava Girl.

That movie was also rebooted by Netflix recently in 2020 movie We Can Be Heroes.

Racer is now 26, and his screenwriting powers will have only increased since his first go-round as a pre-teen.

As for the plot of the new Spy Kids film, well it looks like a bit of a redo of the first one, with the kids expected to pick up the slack and become pint-sized spies after something goes horribly wrong on one of their parent's missions.

Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez stars as the parents in the new Spy Kids film.

Netflix's logline reads: "When the children of the world’s greatest secret agents unwittingly help a powerful Game Developer unleash a computer virus that gives him control of all technology, they must become spies themselves to save their parents and the world."

News of the reboot was greeted with a mix of delight and trepidation by fans of the original.

One wrote: "This will be Robert Rodriguez’s masterpiece."

Another wrote: "As an OG fan, I’m extremely cautious! Zachary Levi and Gina Rodriguez sound promising! But I need more than that to be good."

A third said: "It is releasing on my birthday and I will be 25. I am soo happy cause I love the OG Spy Kids. They had such impact on my life. Shaped my childhood somehow. Always be a kid at heart."
