Netflix subscribers have been 'floored' by a true-crime mini-series which has racked up near-perfect ratings.

The streaming service boats thousands of titles, so it's not surprising that hidden gems sometimes fall through the cracks.

Among them is this seven-part documentary series viewers have hailed an 'absolute masterpiece'.

Set in the US, it tells the story of a harrowing unsolved murder which shook Baltimore.

It's so disturbing, some viewers have confessed they couldn't make it through to the end.

For those who did, its haunting impact lingered long after the credits rolled, staying with them for years following its release.

The series explores the 1969 murder of Sister Cathy Cesnik, a beloved nun and teacher from Baltimore.

The 26-year-old's body was found two months after she vanished, but the case went cold - until decades later, when disturbing revelations brought it back into the light.

In the 1990s, a former student known only as Jane Doe came forward with a harrowing account of sexual abuse by the school’s chaplain.

Even more shocking: she claimed she was shown Sister Cathy’s body and warned to stay silent.

Her testimony, alongside those of other victims and witnesses, painted a chilling picture of systemic abuse and silence.

Despite mounting evidence, no one was ever held accountable.

Outside of Baltimore, the story barely made headlines. But, through powerful interviews with survivors, journalists, and citizens refusing to let the truth die, the Netflix series investigates the possible cover-up that spans decades.

The series is titled The Keepers and you can watch its trailer below:

Taking to Reddit, one social media user requested suggestions for 'a show that’s going to have me gagged and shocked'.

"I need to feel something," they wrote. "I wanna watch something that’s going to have me floored multiple times throughout watching.

"I’m talking jaw dropping, unexpected and applause worthy."

Among the suggestions new crime drama Dept Q and Netflix's 'best ever' TV series, Dark.

But floods of users suggested The Keepers, as one person weighed in: "As a true crime junkie I consider it an absolute masterpiece. It’s brutal but so well-done."

A second admitted: "I consume a lot of true crime and I couldn't make it through The Keepers."

While a third wrote: "Very few documentaries - if any at all except this one - absolutely floor me.

"This one literally shocked me to my core. This is a documentary that you must watch."

Another admitted: "This one lives rent free in my head. It shook me to the core," as someone else said it was the first ever documentary to give them a 'jump scare'.

Elsewhere, the series has racked up an impressive 97 percent Rotten Tomatoes score across 31 critic reviews.

More than 250 audience members rated it an average of 93 percent.

One gave their verdict: "Since its release in 2017, The Keepers has been a top 5 documentary in my book. Brilliantly told with excellent production quality."

A second agreed: "One of the most spine-chilling docuseries to have come out in the recent times, and an emotional one at that."

All seven episodes of The Keepers are streaming now on Netflix.
