People are flooding to social media to rave about a new twisted Netflix thriller series.

Cast, crew and synopsis

Created by Richard Gadd and based on his one-man play of the same name - first performed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2019 - the miniseries stars Gadd as Donny Dunn, The Outlaws' Jessica Gunning as Martha, Waking Hour's Nava Mau plays American therapist Teri and Humans' Tom Goodman-Hill plays TV writer Darrien.

The drama follows the hard-hitting, harrowing and shocking events which unfold after comedian Donny shows an act of kindness to the vulnerable Martha by offering her a cup of tea, their acquaintance soon taking a dark turn - with Donny ending up being stalked.

Titled Baby Reindeer, the seven-episode limited series is based on a shocking true story and events experienced by Gadd himself, the writer and actor explaining he lived through the 'whole ordeal', which was 'one of the most intense periods', but he wanted the series to be 'a blend' of both 'light and shade'.

Reaction

The series may have only dropped on the streaming service on 11 April, but it's already achieved a perfect audience score of 100 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, alongside a fresh as can be critics' score of 100 percent too.

And the praise for Baby Reindeer has spilled over onto social media too.

"On episode six and there’s zero chance that I don’t end this night ugly crying. Jeezus this is raw. I just want to know he’s OK. I need him to be OK," another added.

"The way it tackles the sexual harassment & abuse faced by men is riveting. and that ending? omg, i'll need some time to process this."
