Netflix renews Monster for two more seasons focusing on other monstrous figures

Netflix's Monster is coming back.

Despite the heavy backlash it received since it first dropped on Netflix, Ryan Murphy's Monster has been renewed for a second and third season.

The first season of Monster, which was titled Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, sat at the top of the Netflix charts for weeks and, according to the streaming service, it became the second most popular English TV season ever.

Now, it's about to come back for two more seasons - this time focusing on 'other monstrous figures who have impacted society'.

Despite the phenomenal success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, the series faced serious backlash on behalf of Dahmer's victims.

The Netflix drama, which starred Evan Peters as the murderer, left viewers feeling faint when it depicted the notorious serial killer's murders in excruciating detail.

That's why relatives of Jeffrey Dahmer's victims have complained that they were left totally 'blindsided' by the TV show, which left them feeling like they were 'reliving it all over again'.

Rita Isbell, who lost her brother Errol Lindsey to Jeffrey Dahmer, said of the series: “I feel like Netflix should’ve asked if we mind or how we felt about making it. They didn’t ask me anything. They just did it. But I’m not money hungry, and that’s what this show is about, Netflix trying to get paid.”

Now that Netflix are set to renew Monster and make it an anthology series, people are already calling for future seasons to keep victims and their loved ones in mind.

And Monster isn't the only hit Ryan Murphy series being renewed either.

Eerie drama series The Watcher is also set to return for a second season.

Based on a true story, The Watcher starred Bobby Cannavale, Naomi Watts and Jennifer Coolidge.

It told the story of a family who start receiving creepy letters after they move into a beautiful suburban home, written by someone who calls themselves The Watcher and who describes the home as their 'obsession'.

Speaking on the renewed series', Netflix’s head of global TV Bela Bajaria commented: "Audiences can’t take their eyes off Monster and The Watcher.

"The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on The Watcher are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world.

"The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”

You can watch the first seasons of Monster and The Watcher on Netflix now.
