Matthew Perry says Cameron Diaz hit him in the face while she was stoned

Matthew Perry getting punched by Cameron Diaz is a celebrity anecdote for the ages

Friends star Matthew Perry has claimed that he was once hit in the face by Cameron Diaz whilst she was ‘stoned’.

It’s a big claim to make and – as celebrity anecdotes go – it’s a pretty interesting one.

The actor has just released a new memoir about his life, which includes details about his relationship with fellow A-lister Julia Roberts, his battle with addiction, and – of course – his time on Friends.

He's spoken candidly about his battle with addiction before, as this video will show you:

However, it does also talk about some other strange experiences that he’s had during his life, and there have been some notable ones.

You wouldn’t forget getting punched in the face by Cameron Diaz, would you?

Apparently, the whole thing started after the two were set up to go on a group date after Diaz had just split up with Justin Timberlake.

In the book, Perry said that Diaz got ‘immediately stoned’ during the party but ‘wasn’t interested in [him] at all’.

They all settled in for a game of Pictionary – which must have been quite a sight – when Perry managed to come out with ‘something witty’ that clearly amused Diaz.

And in her attempts to punch him on the shoulder in a jocular fashion, she accidentally punched him in the face.

“Are you f***ing kidding me?” Perry recalled saying.

Presumably this was the sort of face he pulled.

UNILAD has reached out to Diaz’ people for a comment on the matter, so hopefully we might get her side of things before too long.

Elsewhere in the book, Perry also discussed his time in a relationship with Julia Roberts, who he claims he used to exchange ‘hundreds’ of faxes with on a daily basis.

It truly was a different time – many of you will have to Google what a fax machine is, but they were genuinely a legit means of communication once upon a time.

In an excerpt, Perry said: “Three or four times a day I would sit by my fax machine and watch the piece of paper slowly revealing her next missive,

“I was so excited that some nights I would find myself out at some party sharing a flirtatious exchange with an attractive woman and cut the conversation short so I could race home and see if a new fax had arrived.

“Nine times out of 10, one had.”

He described her messages as ‘so smart’ and explained how he felt that Roberts was ‘placed on this planet to make the world smile’.

Maybe one day we'll get Cameron's side of the story.

““The way she strung sentences together, the way she saw the world, the way she articulated her unique thoughts, all was so captivating,” he added.

In the end it wasn’t to be, as Perry realised that dating Roberts was ‘too much’ for him as he was ‘certain’ that she’d eventually break up with him.

So, he took a different option and broke up with her.

“So instead of facing the inevitable agony of losing her, I broke up with the beautiful and brilliant Julia Roberts,” he said.

Yeah, really smart move there, Matt.
