Tony Stark has now officially died in the Marvel Cinematic Universe timeline

Iron Man sacrificed himself for the good of humanity on October 17.

If we were living in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), today would be a sad day.

October 17 marked the day that Tony Stark sacrificed himself for the good of humanity.

Avengers: Endgame took place in October 2023 and the superheroes tried to reverse the effects of Thanos' snap.

The supervillain wiped out half of every living thing in the universe in Infinity War, which included some of the big-name heroes.

The ones left over were forced to regroup and try and last-ditch effort that involved time travel.

The crack team of Captain America, Black Widow, Thor, Hawkeye, Hulk, Ant-Man, Rocket and War Machine set out their mission to get their world back to the way they knew it.

However, it involved a lot of convincing to get Iron Man in on the plot.

He explained that he has the perfect life with Pepper and his daughter and that risking his life to save the universe was a lot harder now that he had a family.

Stark eventually signed up after realizing the fate of the universe was more important.

They managed to pull off their impressive time-travelling heist, which involved stealing all the Infinity Stones before Thanos is able to combine them together to create the Infinity Gauntlet.

However, it all comes to a head when 2014 Thanos learns of their plan and manages to travel into the future and stop them before they're able to carry out the final stages.

An epic battled ensues that involves Thanos' army against the Avengers and Guardians of the Galaxy, the Ravagers, and the armies of Wakanda and Asgard.

During an intense fight, Tony Stark manages to get the stones off Thanos and uses their power to kill the supervillain and his army.

However, in doing this, the radiation overpowers him and he dies.

It was one of the most devastating and incredible moments in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and nothing to this day has been able to top it.

The final stages of the film showed the Avengers gather for Stark's funeral and his arc reactor that helped keep him alive gets pushed out onto a lake on a wreath of flowers.

People have flocked to social media to mark the day where Tony Stark died to make the rest of the universe whole again and there wasn't a dry eye in the house.
