Jerry Bruckheimer has revealed that Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean film is 'still alive’.

As Johnny Depp won’t be supplied a lifetime of alpacas anytime soon, it looks like the Aussie actor will be the most likely to lead the Disney franchise, according to the producer.

While sitting down with The Hollywood Reporter, Bruckheimer disclosed that two scripts are currently being developed for the next Pirates of the Caribbean instalments.

He told the outlet: “We have a very good script. We developed two of them — the one with Margot Robbie and one with a younger cast. The Margot Robbie one needs a little more work. The younger cast one is close."

He added: "Hopefully we’ll get both of them.”

After the studio dropped Depp from the franchise following his ex-wife, Amber Heard accusing him of domestic violence, rumours began swirling that Australia's golden girl would star in the reboot.

The Hollywood Reporter said in June that Robbie would spearhead a female-lead production along with Birds of Prey writer Christina Hodson.

I mean, not gonna lie - that sounds epic.

However, Robbie previously told Vanity Fair that Disney had terminated the project.

She said: “We had an idea and we were developing it for a while, ages ago, to have more of a female-led—not totally female-led, but just a different kind of story—which we thought would’ve been really cool, but I guess they don’t want to do it.”

But it looks like the studio has had a change of heart.

While little is known about the upcoming film, there have been numerous reports that Robbie’s character will be queer.

According to We Got This Covered, journalist Daniel Richtman said that the actor wanted the character to be progressive while promising fans ‘lots of girl power’.

In addition, the other reboot has enlisted screenwriter Ted Elliott, who worked on previous films in the franchise and Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin, to develop the story, as per Variety.

All five films have grossed more than USD $650 million (AUD $968m or £533m worldwide, with Dead Man’s Chest and On Stranger Tides generating more than USD $1 billion (AUD $1.4b or £822,110,00) at the box office.

It’s also the 15th highest-grossing film series of all time.
