Margot Robbie is keen on seeing Harley Quinn's romance with Poison Ivy play out in a live-action project.

For the uninitiated, Quinn and Ivy have ben best friends in the DC Batman universe.

They have flirted back and forth over the years, according to MovieWeb, however it was nothing more than a bit of harmless fun in between trying to wreak havoc on Gotham.

But, they took things to another level in 2015 when it was confirmed they were an item in a non-monogamous context.

Their evolving relationship has dealt with a fallout after a failed attempt at living together as well as their first kiss.

But the animated TV series Harley Quinn has been one of the biggest platforms to see Ivy explore her sexuality and her feelings with Quinn.

This part of the character hasn't been seen in a live-action sense, as we've only seen Quinn's relationship with the Joker so far.

But Margot Robbie would love for that to change.

Speaking to ComicBook.com, the Aussie actor said: "I have been pushing for that for years. I cannot tell you how hard I've been pushing for that. I want it too."

She's hoping to see this relationship shown in some capacity in upcoming live-action Batman projects that feature Quinn and Ivy.

Robbie said she hasn't really thought of any actors who she'd like to see take on that storyline.

"Honestly, when I pictured, I always picture like Poison Ivy in the comics," she explained.

"I don't really actually picture an actress doing it, but I agree, that would be so good."

The next time we will see Harley Quinn in a live-action project will be Joker 2, with Lady Gaga cast in the role.

Very little is known about the highly-anticipated sequel and there have been some rumours about the film being a musical.

Other speculation has said the movie will be mostly set in Arkham Asylum.

While none of that has been confirmed yet, it will be interesting to see how Gaga takes on the role that Margot Robbie has held for so many years.

But, it seems like Margot has nothing but praise for the singer.

She told MTV News: "It makes me so happy because I said from the very beginning that all I want is for Harley Quinn to be one of those characters, the way Macbeth or Batman, always gets passed from great actor to great actor.

"It's kind of like someone gets to do their Batman, or someone gets to do their Macbeth. I feel like, in not so many cases, are they female characters — Queen Elizabeth I, but beyond that, which I got to have a crack out as well, which I was honored to do. I was like, 'Wow! Cate Blanchett did Queen Elizabeth I. Now I get to.'"

Robbie added: "I think she'll do something incredible with it."

We can't wait to see what happens.
