Last Of Us fans are praising Mindhunter's Anna Torv in stand out role

Last Of Us is based on the 2013 video game

One particular actor from Last Of Us seems to be taking all the plaudits for their stand-out role in the series.

The nine-episode HBO show, which is based on the 2013 video game of the same name, follows smuggler Joel (Pedro Pascal) who is tasked with escorting the teenage Ellie (Bella Ramsey) across a post-apocalyptic United States.

Take a look at the epic trailer below:

While many fans of video games that get turned into TV shows usually expect it to flop, Last Of Us seems to have broken that downward trend.

"It somehow manages to stay true to the original source material, while also pushing it further, and harder. The result is the best video game adaptation in years, if not ever," UNILAD's Jessica Hardiman wrote in her five-star review.

Pascal and Ramsay especially were regarded by fans as being perfect in their roles, despite admitting they'd never played the video game. But the show's creators were happy to keep it that way.

Ramsay explained: "[The producers] wanted to protect me and they didn’t want me to feel I had to copy the game and Ashley [Johnson's] iconic Ellie. Also, I think there was an element of trust that they put in us."

"Craig Mazin and the writers really nailed translating the video games and the characters therein to a TV show," one fan wrote on Twitter, adding: "If they keep this is up, The Last of Us will definitely be the standard for video game to movie or TV show adaptations for sure."

And paired with a hefty HBO budget, the winning combo is there for all to see.

Alongside the two leads, viewers also think the actor who plays Joel's smuggler partner Tess has especially made her mark on the series.

Taking to social media, many users were pleasantly surprised by Mindhunter star Anna Torv's take on the character.

One person tweeted: "Anna Torv in the Last of Us good lord."

Another added: "Gotta get more Anna Torv time for the Last of Us, I see what they're doing."

While a third person agreed: "Last of Us ep01 was pretty good, also very cool to see @anna_torv on screen again."

And someone else wrote: "the Last of Us pilot was very good but it was a nice surprise to see my Mindhunter and fringe favorite Anna Torv."

And some fans were so gassed with her on-screen performance that they wanted to re-watch her other shows.

"Seeing Anna Torv on The Last of Us made me wish I had enough time to rewatch the entirety of Mindhunter," one commented.

Another viewer said: "I did not recognise Anna Torv as Tess in The Last of Us. Made me want to start a Fringe rewatch."

The series also guest stars Nico Parker (The Third Day) as Sarah, Joel’s 14-year old daughter, alongside Murray Bartlett (The White Lotus) and Nick Offerman (Parks and Recreation) as Frank and Bill, two post-pandemic survivalists living alone in their own isolated town.
