Fans calling for Katy Perry to apologize for 'rude' reaction to American Idol contestant progressing

The judge has been slammed for her reaction to the news

Katy Perry has come under fire once again for yet another American Idol controversy, and fans are far from happy with her conduct following yesterday's episode (23 April).

Viewers are now calling for the 'Teenage Dream' star to apologize for her 'rude' reaction to one of the show's contestants progressing through the competition following the live vote.

The contestant, Wé Ani, successfully progressed to the next round and made it to the prestigious Top 20, however, it seems as Perry wasn't too happy at all about her victory. Check it out:

Presenter Ryan Seacrest stood before the likes of Elijah McCormick, Dawson Wayne, Malik Heard, and Ani to reveal which lucky one made it through to the next round.

After Ani's name was called to fill the final spot in the Top 20 - it's clear that Perry's reaction definitely rubbed audiences the wrong way after the other three contestants were left with no choice but to depart from the competition.

Upon receiving the news, the singer then took to the stage for an incredible rendition of Adele's 'Skyfall' and blew audiences and judges alike away with her vocals.

"You’re so deserving," fellow American Idol judge Luke Bryan reminded her, "it’s amazing what you do night in and night out, you crushed it."

Lionel Richie echoed Bryan's comments, saying that he loved the contestant before adding: "The amount of talent you have is undeniable."

However, Perry's feedback was not nearly as gleaming.

Katy Perry has been slammed for her comments after the contestant soared into the Top 20.

She began: "Wé, oh my god, I’m just so shook right now.

"First of all, shook by the results, and I’m also shook by that song is so dramatic, there’s so much drama going through my body right now I need a nap."

The 'California Gurls' star never gave Ani any specific feedback or praise for her performance but instead took the opportunity to tell audiences about the importance of voting.

She continued: "But the truth is, America, you guys have the votes. You’re the ones voting.

"And if you’re not voting, you’re not using your voice. Your faves aren’t safe. So from now on, vote for who you want to see in the Top 12."

Ouch.

Bryan also agreed with Perry, adding that the judges were all still 'processing' what had happened on the show, echoing: "Please go vote."

"Katy Perry needs to leave!"

And it didn't take long for the odd reaction to cause a frenzy on social media with an avalanche of viewers rushing to the contestant's defence.

One Twitter user posted: "Katy’s expression of disappointment was evident from the moment they said Wé Ani’s name. Not cool."

"As much as I love them, I hope Katy Perry and Luke Bryan apologize to Wé Ani for not letting her have her moment and telling America they need to vote instead of applauding her performance," added a second.

A third echoed: "Katy Perry needs to apologize to Wé Ani immediately! So dismissive because she didn’t get her choice!

"It’s called American Idol for a reason, it’s America’s choice not yours!"

Some took their critique to the next level after calling for the judge to be taken off the show altogether.

They tweeted: "Katy Perry needs to leave! That was very rude to show her displeasure with Americas choice of Wé Ani. She had the best performance of the night!"

American Idol will next air on Sunday (30 April) at 8 pm on ABC.
