Jordan Peterson has responded to Olivia Wilde's comments that she had based one of the characters from Don't Worry Darling on him.

The eerie movie is set to land in cinemas later this month and sees Alice (Florence Pugh) and Jack (Harry Styles) move to a pristine new community led by the creepy yet charming Frank, played by Chris Pine.

However, things take a dark turn when Alice begins to wonder whether something sinister is going on with her husband's mysterious company. Check out the trailer:

And, according to the director, Pine's 'terrifying' character is based on the 'insane' Peterson.

Speaking to Maggie Gyllenhaal about the film, Wilde said: "We based that character on this insane man, Jordan Peterson, who is this pseudo-intellectual hero to the incel community.

"They’re basically disenfranchised, mostly white men, who believe they are entitled to sex from women.

"And they believe that society has now robbed them—that the idea of feminism is working against nature, and that we must be put back into the correct place.

"Yeah, they’re actually succeeding in many different ways. But this guy Jordan Peterson is someone that legitimises certain aspects of their movement because he’s a former professor, he’s an author, he wears a suit, so they feel like this is a real philosophy that should be taken seriously."

Jordan Peterson was apparently an inspiration for Chris Pine's character in Don't Worry Darling.

Well, as you might expect, Peterson didn't take the comments too kindly, though he was flattered by Pine's casting.

The 60-year-old told National Post: "Now, (Pine) has a reputation as quite an attractive man … so that could be worse.

"I also hope that Chris Pine at least does the sartorial splendour of my very formal public wardrobe justice as he pillories me in the latest bit of propaganda disseminated by the woke, self-righteous bores and bullies who now dominate Hollywood, and who insist that the production of such tripe."

Shia LaBeouf was originally cast to play the part of Jack in the movie, however, he left the production before filming began.

Wilde recently claimed that she had to fire him due to concerns over his process and the safety of the rest of the cast.

She told Variety: "I say this as someone who is such an admirer of his work: His process was not conducive to the ethos that I demand in my productions.

"He has a process that, in some ways, seems to require a combative energy, and I don’t personally believe that is conducive to the best performances.

"I believe that creating a safe, trusting environment is the best way to get people to do their best work.

"Ultimately, my responsibility is to the production and to the cast to protect them. That was my job."

Following her comments, LaBeouf came out and denied the claims, telling Variety that he quit the film on 17 August 2020 due to a lack of rehearsal time.
