John Travolta, Uma Thurman And Samuel L Jackson Recreate Iconic Pulp Fiction Scene At Oscars

The two actors have clearly not lost it, having treated the audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to an on-stage shimmy

John Travolta, Uma Thurman and Samuel L Jackson were reunited on stage at last night’s Oscars ceremony, where they recreated an iconic scene from Pulp Fiction as the audience cheered them on.

The three former co-stars all earned previous Oscar nominations for their roles in the 1994 flick, which was also nominated for Best Picture and won Quentin Tarantino the award for Best Original Screenplay. But yesterday they were honouring this year’s top stars as they presented the Best Actor gong, arriving on stage to the sound of Chuck Berry’s ‘You Can Never Tell’.

In the movie, Thurman and Travolta’s characters go to eat at 1950s-themed diner Jack Rabbit Slim’s, where they take part in a twist contest, famously wiggling their hips to Berry’s track. And the two actors have clearly not lost it, having treated the audience at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood to an on-stage shimmy before going through the nominated names.

Check it out:

Jackson stood at the podium in the middle with a black briefcase – another nod to the cult film – and quipped: “Some actors stay in character through an entire shoot, and some, well, they just never let it go.”

Still dancing, Thurman added: “Maybe later we’ll have a $5 milkshake.”

Travolta then chipped in to suggest a ‘royale with cheese’, as an unimpressed Jackson joked: “See what I mean? Pulp Fiction was a masterpiece, but these two think it was all about a dance contest.”

Elsewhere in the ceremony, some jokes didn't land quite as successfully – with Will Smith slapping Chris Rock for a comment he made about his wife Jada Pinkett Smith.

As Smith accepted his Best Actor accolade for King Richard, he cited Richard Williams – the father of Venus and Serena Williams – as being a 'fierce defender of his family'.

He said: "I want to apologise to the Academy. I want to apologise to all my fellow nominees.

"This is a beautiful moment and I’m not crying for winning an award. It’s not about winning an award for me. It’s about being able to shine light on all the people, Tim [White, producer], Trevor [White, producer], Zach [Baylin, writer], Saniyya [Sidney, who plays Venus], and Demi [Singleton, who plays Serena] and Aunjanue [Ellis, who plays Oracene Price] of King Richard and Serena, the entire Williams family.

"Art imitates life. I look like the crazy father, just like they said. I look like the crazy father just like they said about Richard Williams but love will make you do crazy things.

"Being able to love and care for my mother and my family, my wife... I’m taking up too much time. Thank you for this honour. Thank you for this moment. Thank you on behalf of Richard, Oracene, the entire Williams family.”

Before leaving the stage, he joked: "Hopefully the Academy invites me back.”
