Joel McHale has revealed filming for the Community movie will take place in June this year.

To all you Greendale fans, you can finally breathe a sigh of relief.

During his recent appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! the comedian was there to promote his new series Animal Control; however, he failed to dodge questions about the highly-awaited movie.

Keeping on the theme of his series Animal Control, a snake wrangler brought an Albino Burmese Python on the stage for McHale to hold when Kimmel asked him for an update.

As the actor held the python, Kimmel reminded him he had also previously worked with animals during his stint on Community.

Kimmel said: “By the way, you worked with a monkey on Community, and you guys are making a movie, right?”

McHale replied, while trying to remain tight-lipped: “We are, we're making the Community movie in June, so... Thanks for remembering."

He jokingly confirmed: "I can say Ken Jeong's gonna be in it."

For years fans have been demanding ‘six seasons and a movie’, which finally came to fruition in 2021 when the show’s creator Dan Harmon revealed on Vulture's Good One podcast that he was working on a script.

However, he was still deciding if he wanted the movie to pander to merely loyal fans.

He said: “Here's the biggest philosophical question: are you supposed to service a mythical new viewer? The obvious, dogmatic, practical, off-the-street answer is like, 'No, you don't. It's fan service. Why would there be a Community movie?’

"Formalistically, you owe a movie that, I think, the fans can not only enjoy, but they can stand back and go, 'You know, the crazy thing about this Community movie is that if you didn't know there was a show, this is an insanely good movie'."

However, he recently said on the Six Seasons and a Podcast that the film would take a different direction from what fans expect.

Furthermore, Harmon assured that the gang wouldn’t be reuniting for another threat of Greendale Community College shutting down.

He added their reunion won’t just be a one-off.

He said: "You’re not gonna do anything terribly clever with using the school’s demise or resurrection as a device because you don’t want too much of your movie to be spent unrecognizable…there’s a reason to get together and there’s a reason they have to stay together."

No word yet on the film’s release date.
