Jennette McCurdy is thinking about returning to acting after massive success of her memoir

Jennette McCurdy has opened the door to a potential return to acting after the runaway success of her memoir.

She’d previously said that she was out of the acting game after having a selection of negative experiences whilst working on iCarly and Sam & Cat, but now she could be about to come back.

After she quit acting, McCurdy went on to write a book about her difficult upbringing called I’m Glad My Mom Died, which has been met with critical acclaim.

In an excerpt from that book, she claimed that she was ‘exploited’ as a child and wanted to quit acting after an ‘uncomfortable’ audition.

Have a look at this video, in which she discusses her early career.

However, her mum told her: "You can't quit! This was our chance!"

After Sam & Cat ended, McCurdy went off and wrote her book, turning down the iCarly reboot for her ‘mental health and happiness’.

Now though, she might be back, as an interview with E! suggests.

McCurdy said: "I do feel like only through writing the book have I gotten to a place where I think there might be a way of exploring acting that doesn't carry that baggage that I carried with me for so long.

“Maybe if I write something for myself.

“I think that'd really be maybe one of the only ways I could kind of try exploring it again."

In another interview on Anna Farris’ Unqualified podcast, she had said: "I really thought that I was done with acting.

“I’m never doing that shot ever again. Goodbye.

“And then after finishing the book, I remember having the thought: ‘I wonder if there’s a way to act where maybe I write a role for myself.’

“Maybe there’s a way of kind of reclaiming it."

Following the release of the memoir, she has signed a book deal and is now planning to write a novel as well as a collection of essays.

On that novel, she said: "[It's about] either who I wish I could be in some aspects, or who I hope I never am in other aspects.

“But it’s probably me, right?"

Just now, we’ve got no idea of what is going to be the subject matter or plot of those projects, but we’ll keep you posted as we find out.

After the end of Sam & Cat, McCurdy said that Nickelodeon offered her $300,000 to keep her own counsel about what happened to her on the show.

Now, she could return to acting.

She said: "My whole childhood and adolescence were very exploited. It still gives my nervous system a reaction to say it.

"There were cases where people had the best intentions and maybe didn’t know what they were doing. And also cases where they did — they knew exactly what they were doing."

If you want to find out more, I’m Glad My Mom Died is available now from all good retailers.
