Henry Cavill gets emotional as he bids farewell to his The Witcher co-stars.

Cavill is set to return to our screens once again as fan-favourite Geralt of Rivia the upcoming third season of the hit Netflix show next month.

However, much to many die-hard fans' disappointment, this will mark the final fix of Cavill on The Witcher as the star will soon depart from the beloved series, with Liam Hemsworth set to take over the role.

Check out what he had to say here:

The new trailer for the third season of the fantasy drama series was released earlier this month (8 June), showing Cavill alongside Anya Chalotra as Yennefer of Vengerberg, Freya Allan as Princess Cirilla of Cintra, and Joey Batey as the bard Jaskier.

The series will be released in two parts, with the first set to be released on 29 June and the second dropping on 27 July.

An official synopsis released by the streaming giant has teased to fans just what they can expect from the upcoming season.

It reads: "As monarchs, mages, and beasts of the Continent compete to capture her, Geralt takes Ciri into hiding, determined to protect his newly reunited family against those who threaten to destroy it.

"Entrusted with Ciri’s magical training, Yennefer leads them to the protected fortress of Aretuza, where they hope to uncover more about the girl’s untapped powers; instead, they discover they’ve landed in a battlefield of political corruption, dark magic, and treachery.

The third season of The Witcher marks Cavill's last appearance on the series.

"They must fight back, put everything on the line – or risk losing each other forever."

However, the third series comes as somewhat bittersweet as it also marks the final time fans get to see Cavill play Geralt.

And it's clear the feeling goes both ways as the Superman star is also feeling emotional about his departure from the show.

Speaking at a Netflix event in Brazil over the weekend, Cavill was joined with his three other cast members Allan, Chalotra and Batey to discuss the elephant in the room.

"I suppose we should talk to Henry?" joked Batey as the crowd erupted into a chorus of cheers.

Cavill also took the opportunity to thank his fellow co-stars.

Once the cheering died down, Cavill addressed the audience: "Thank you very much to all. Thank you. I really feel the love, and I love you too. It’s wonderful to be here."

He then took the opportunity to offer some words of thanks to his fellow co-stars, continuing: "I actually just want to talk about my co-stars here, because once again it was such a pleasure and an honor to be working with you guys.

"You guys bring so much nuance and detail to these characters, which are often at risk of being oversimplified, and what you guys have done with the characters has involved work, care, and effort."

Cavill went on to tell the trio that working with them was 'the biggest pleasure'.

He concluded: "So, [I] just want to say I'm gonna miss you. I'm gonna miss you very much."

Both parts of season three of The Witcher will be available to stream on Netflix by 27 July.
