Henry Cavill has announced his return as Superman. Check it out:

The British actor took to Instagram today (24 October) to confirm that he would be donning the tight suit once more as he reprises the iconic role.

Sharing a snap of him wearing the red cape, Cavill wrote: "A very small taste of what’s to come, my friends."

In a video accompanying the news, the 39-year-old said he was excited to bring the character back, timing it with the release of Black Adam, in which Superman makes a cameo.

"Hey everyone," he says. "I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this, because I wanted to give you all a chance to see Black Adam.

"But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman. And the image you see on this post, and what you saw in Black Adam, are just a very small taste of things to come.

"So there's a lot to be thankful for, and I'll get to that in time, but I wanted to thank you guys most of all. Thank you for your support and thank you for your patience. I promise it will be rewarding."

While Black Adam's long-awaited release was met with some pretty harsh reviews by critics, receiving just 39 percent from experts on Rotten Tomatoes, its star Dwayne Johnson has brushed it off.

Instead, he pointed to the fans' score, which is pretty decent at 90 percent.

Johnson celebrated the reviews on Twitter, writing: "This phenomenal 90 percent AUDIENCE SCORE for #BlackAdam is so gratifying for so many reasons. THANK YOU for all so much for all the love and support."

Then, seemingly having a dig at the critics, the former WWE wrestler added: "In the end, the only thing that matters to me is sending the people home happy.

"And that’s what I’ll always fight for."

Slamming the movie, one journalist wrote: "Black Adam is nothing more than a splashy two-hour coming attractions reel for future motion pictures."

While another added: "It's just a shame the film itself is painfully dull."

Fans, however, have been much kinder with their reviews.

"Love the movie!!! Idc what everyone else saids!!! People will find anything to say to put someone down." put one.

Someone else commented: "Probably some purists will have issue with a few things... but I enjoyed it.

"Dwayne Johnson is excellent. Highly recommend."
