Marvel fans baffled by Gamora’s appearance in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3‘s trailer

Fans have a lot of questions after seeing the former Guardian pop up

If you're a Marvel fan, chances are you know exactly what happened to Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War. Naturally, then, her appearance in the new trailer for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has left people confused.

Marvel dropped the latest trailer for the upcoming film as an early Christmas treat yesterday (2 December), showing the gang back together after we last saw them in 2019's Avengers: Endgame.

Peter (Chris Pratt), Drax, Nebula, Groot and Mantis are all quickly introduced - and pelted with rocks - in the trailer, but before long fans are also given a glimpse of Gamora (Zoe Saldaña) as she looks at a Polaroid photograph.

We see her again brandishing a knife and seemingly helping Drax to walk, so it's clear she plays a pretty big part in the film, but there's just one problem - Gamora was killed off in Avengers: Infinity War.

The adopted daughter of Thanos was thrown off a cliff as a sacrifice so the supervillain could get the soul stone, though her character did make a comeback as a past version of herself in Endgame thanks to a time heist.

It's possible that the Gamora seen in the new trailer could be this new (or rather, old) version of the character introduced in Endgame, but that character hadn't yet met Star-Lord, and didn't know who he was when she encountered him.

Fans have been left baffled over Gamora's appearance.

Following the battle with Thanos the past version of Gamora left with little explanation and didn't appear to return for Iron Man's funeral, prompting many people to believe she had returned to her own timeline. But now here she is.

The whole thing has left Marvel fans with a lot of questions, though admittedly has probably also served its purpose of raising hype for the film.

Taking to Twitter after the trailer was released, one viewer wrote "wait how is gamora alive??? i’m so confused after the trailer," while another commented: "Why am I seeing Gamora in the trailer?"

Another baffled Marvel fan commented: "did i miss something why is gamora being back not a major thing in the trailer??? this is either gonna be a super fun roller coaster or a dumpster fire."

Only time will tell which way the film will go, but it's safe to say fans will be flocking to the cinema to figure out exactly what Gamora will be up to.

Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is currently set to be released in May 2023.
