Eagle-eyed Marvel fans are convinced they've spotted legendary superhero Mr Fantastic within the trailer for the Doctor Strange sequel.

Inventor of the spacecraft that gave the Fantastic Four their powers after it encountered cosmic radiation on its maiden voyage, Reed Richards is the body-bending founding member of the Fantastic Four known as Mr Fantastic.

Last played by Miles Teller in 2015 release Fantastic Four, fans have clearly been missing the Marvel master, so much so that they may be imagining him into the trailer for Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, or are they?

In the recently released trailer, some fans think they have spotted the legendary superhero sitting as a member of The Illuminati, Movie Web reports.

Doctor Strange can be seen being handcuffed and taken to a mysterious room, where there looms even more peculiar shadows.

And who should one shadowy figure and the outline of their costume seemingly resemble according to fans? Mr Fantastic himself, of course.

Twitter has since exploded into a frenzy of theories, spurred on by multiple other rumours of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness containing other superhero figures such as Ryan Reynolds' Deadpool or even Tom Cruise as Iron Man.

One fan said: 'Am I the only one kinda hoping that since we’re getting a Patrick Stewart Professor X variant and probably a Tom Cruise Tony Stark, we get a @ioangruffudd Mister Fantastic variant? Always thought he was a solid Reed Richards.'

Another wrote: 'Hear me out, Illuminati confirmed, six chairs:

- Professor X (in the trailer, X-Men finally)

- Alt Iron Man (bots in trailer, Tom Cruise)

- New/alt Black Panther (for movie 2 maybe)

- Mister Fantastic (F4 finally)

- Namor (Gargantos in trailers)

- Doctor Strange (see below)'

A third commented: 'There looks to be 7 chairs in total for that scene with the Illuminati. Now who could they be? I think it’s Professor X, Evil Doctor Strange, Mister Fantastic, Tom Cruise Iron Man, Blackbolt, Namor, and maybe Captain Britain?'

In the Marvel comics, the Illuminati is made up of Mr Fantastic, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Professor X, Black Bolt, and Namor.

The secret group first appeared on the page in 2005, and each member is meant to represent a different part of the superhero community.

Given the severity of the situation in the Doctor Strange trailer, with humanity appearing to be in great peril, it seems likely that a group of powerful superhero minds will need to join together to tackle the mysterious new adversary that has been flung in Doctor Strange's way. Or are fans just seeing what they want to see?

We will just have to wait for the films highly-anticipated release.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is set to hit cinemas on May 6, 2022.
