The streaming site also shared a statement from the series' showrunners - Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg - who said: "The upcoming Season Six will mark the conclusion of Cobra Kai.

“While this may be a bittersweet day for the fandom, the Miyagiverse has never been stronger. This fandom is the BEST on the planet, and we hope to be telling more Karate Kid stories with you down the line.

“Because, as we all know, Cobra Kai Never Dies.”

The show is returning for a sixth and final season.

The 'three young kids from New Jersey' said that reacquainting the world with The Karate Kid universe had been a 'humble honour'.

"Making Cobra Kai has allowed us to join the same hallowed dojo once inhabited by the great Robert Mark Kamen, John Avildsen, Jerry Weintraub and all the amazing original cast members," they said.

"It has also enabled us to play sensei, expanding the original storylines and birthing a new generation of underdogs. We've never once taken this opportunity for granted."

The showrunners said they wanted to end the saga on their terms.

The showrunners explained how their goal for the programme 'from day one' was to end it on their terms, leaving the Valley 'in the time and place' they had always imagined.

"It is with immense pride and thankfulness that we are able to announce that achievement," the trio said, going on to promise the 'biggest season of Cobra Kai yet.

"Let today be a celebration of all that's to come, as well as all that's still left to be told," they added.

"We couldn't do it without you. We've made it.

"Strike First. Strike Hard. No Mercy."

Netflix shared a poignant statement from the showrunners.

The bittersweet news seemed to only make fans more excited for the sixth and final season, which is 'coming soon'.

One tweeted: "Good that they’re ending it on their terms, can’t wait for S6."

Someone else said: "Knew this would be the last season. Great time to end it love it."

A third added: "Sad to see it end, but I am glad they can end it on their terms and finish the story strong!"

In the meantime, you can stream the first five seasons of the show on Netflix now.
