Chris Hemsworth Gives Status Update On Hulk Hogan Movie

Chris Hemsworth has offered fans an update on his upcoming project in which he is set to star as wrestling icon Hulk Hogan.

Chris Hemsworth has offered fans an update on his upcoming project in which he is set to star as wrestling icon Hulk Hogan.

Hemsworth is currently juggling the imminent release of his Netflix film Spiderhead and the highly anticipated arrival of his new Marvel film, Thor: Love and Thunder, but he's assured fans his Hogan film has not been forgotten about.

The project was first announced in 2019, with Hemsworth in the starring role as American professional wrestler Hogan, who rose to fame by performing with what is now WWE after signing with the organisation in 1983.

Hemsworth previously described the project as 'really fun', telling Total Film the preparation would be 'insanely physical'. Having already taken on the role of the God of Thunder it's clear that Hemsworth is used to working out for a character, but he said this particular project will require him to 'put on more size than [he ever has] before, even more than [he] put on for Thor'.

“And then there is the accent as well as the physicality and the attitude,” he continued. “I will also have to do a deep dive into the rabbit hole of the wrestling world, which I’m really looking forward to doing.”

In spite of his excitement, an update from Hemsworth this month revealed there's still a long way to go until we see the actor taking on the role of Hogan.

When asked by Comicbook how many shirts he's ripped off to help get in character, Hemsworth laughed and commented: "That film's a while away. That's sort of in the development stage you know, and if that comes to fruition, great. [Director] Todd Phillips is brilliant. Haven't ripped any shirts off yet, but you'll be the first to hear about it when I do."

Though production doesn't seem to have got underway just yet, co-writer John Pollono has said he 'can't wait to see it someday'.

Speaking to Screen Rant in 2021, the writer said he is 'proud of the work' that went into the script, adding: "Coming from theatre, I like to write for actors, and Scott Silver, who co-wrote that with me who was like a mentor early in my career, some of my favourite scripts were written by him, so it’s like a joy to work with.

"I love writing for great actors, I think Chris Hemsworth, like these guys, he’s awesome. You can make him funny and tragic and all that stuff."

It might be a while before we see Hemsworth taking on whatever 'funny and tragic' storylines Pollono and Silver might have penned for him, but hopefully any project that comes from it will be worth the wait.
