Fans are 'begging' for a new eight-part series to be renewed for another season after many shared how they were instantly 'hooked'.

After 50 years, a romantic novel written by bestselling young adult author Judy Blume has finally been brought to our screens and it's received a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes, while IMDb awarded it a 7.5.

The story follows two Black high schoolers, Keisha (played by Lovie Simone) and Justin (played by Michael Cooper Jr.), who fall in love and have to navigate their intimacy through social and parental pressures.

Taking to IMDb, one user wrote in part: "This is a Netflix film that cannot go without giving another season... Where does life take everyone? Do old people get the opportunity to find each other again? Or do we meet new people?"

The series is called Forever and is the latest project of Being Mary Jane writer Mara Brock Akil.

Speaking to Netflix, she said: “I’ve always credited Judy Blume as part of the seasoning of my voice as a writer. She was one of the first writers I read that dared to be honest about the human condition in young people and you can see traces of her writing style within my own. I’m honored to reimagine one of my favorite books, Forever.”

While Blume herself added: “I’m thrilled that Mara has chosen to tell this story through her own lens.

“It is gratifying to know that, 50 years after its release, the love story at the core of Forever is still resonating with audiences.”

Where was Forever filmed?

Like much of Brock Akil's films and series, Forever was filmed throughout Los Angeles.

She shared: “I really wanted to show how beautiful it all is, both sides of the 10. There’s one type of beauty that’s [often] depicted.”

The 54-year-old showrunner is referring to the interstate that runs east through the city from Santa Monica.

Brock Akil added: “What better metaphor for this love story than what LA represents, for not only me, but for a lot of people. You’re looking for a place to follow your dreams, and love is a part of that.”

What have fans said about Forever?

Fans have raved about the eight episode series, with many taking to social media to share their reviews.

A second added: “Absolutely loved it. Was hooked from first five minutes. Beautifully executed and worth the watch.”

While over on IMDb, one user titled their review 'Amazing refreshing story', writing in part: “Not only was this show captivating from the first episode. It is enhanced by how visually stunning the scenes are. Pair that with and amazing soundtrack and we have a hit.”

Has Forever been renewed for season two?

Netflix has not yet confirmed if Forever will be renewed for another season.
