Arthur Finale Mocked For Making D.W. A Cop

Arthur has come to an end after 25 seasons, and Elwood City's characters are all grown up.

After 25 seasons and 253 episodes, Arthur has come to an end - and they're all grown up.

Based on Marc Brown's series of books, the iconic kids cartoon has been on the air since 1996, broadcasting all over the world. Revolving around the titular aardvark and his life in the fictional town of Elwood City, generations of kids have enjoyed Arthur's adventures and life lessons over the years.

Last year, PBS announced the show was coming to an end, with the finale fast-forwarding 20 years into the characters' futures. Emotions have been running high after it aired; not just because it wrapped up things beautifully, but one of the characters ended up becoming a police officer.

Let's run through where they all ended up as adults: after accidentally getting a drawing book from the library as a child, Arthur is now a graphic novelist, with the episode ending with the grown-up aardvark reading the first chapter of his debut book to old pals, aptly named Arthur.

Muffy is running for mayor of Elwood, while Francine is working for a sneaker company. Buster is a teacher, and Binky is a local news reporter. As for D.W., she's now a traffic cop, and viewers haven't bit their tongue.

'Arthur ended today after a 25 year run and D.W., the world renowned tattle tale, grew up to be a cop lmao,' Saberspark wrote. 'D.W. becoming a cop in the Arthur finale is actually foreshadowed several seasons earlier when they show a bad grade she got on a test. cool!', Hard Drive's editor Jeremy Kaplowitz also tweeted.

'Power-hungry egomaniac tattle-tale DW becoming a Cop at the end of Arthur is the least surprising thing I've ever seen tbh,' another user wrote. 'Those screenshots of #Arthur and the crew as grown ups are CURSED!!! Though D.W. as a cop makes perfect sense... she been a snitch,' a fourth tweeted.

Speaking to the Los Angeles Times, Arthur's head writer Peter K. Hirsch opened up about the 'meta' finale. 'The idea occurred to me that this whole series has been something Arthur has created. So the suggestion is this has all been his memoir. We thought... oh, that’s fun. It’s a little meta.

'Kids are our boss, and we listen to them. And that is one of the most often asked questions we got: what happens to Arthur? What happens to Francine? And so it seemed like a logical gift to give these loyal viewers something that they really wanted.'
