Ali Wong explains why she hates eating Asian food with non-Asian people

The Beef star has revealed her pet peeve when it comes to Asian cuisine

Ali Wong has explained the exact reason why she hates eating Asian food with non-Asian people.

The star of the hit A24/Netflix comedy-drama, Beef, has opened up about one of her particular pet peeves and just why it grinds her gears so much.

Wong appeared on The Kelly Clarkson Show last week (13 April) to talk some more about Beef which has since been dubbed 'the best show of 2023'.

However, it seems the pair's chat took a totally different direction when they broached the subject of Asian cuisine. Check it out:

The show, directed by Lee Sung Jin, follows the lives of two complete strangers who get into a road rage incident, which soon brings a whole lot of chaos into their lives.

Starring The Walking Dead''s Steven Yeun who plays failing contractor, Danny Cho, alongside Wong who stars as self-made entrepreneur, Amy Lau, the series is definitely gaining some buzz online.

After only being released on the streaming service a couple of weeks ago (6 April), Beef has already received an impressive 98 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Wong has since made a whole bunch of public appearances promoting the popular program but it seems that she ventured slightly off topic when speaking to talk show host, Clarkson.

The pair sat down to play a game titled 'Kelly and Ali Can't Stand It' in which the host presses a button that randomly chooses a 'beef' to rant about.

Opening up some beef she has of her own, the star took the opportunity to open up about her frustrations when it comes to getting Asian food with non-Asian people.

"You are 100% talking about me," Clarkson laughed when the spinner landed on the subject before asking the actor: "Do they Americanize it?"

Wong joked: "Oh, man, we're never going to go to dim sum then."

After being questioned what the issue was, she explained: "No, it's just when I go - when I was living in New York, a bunch of stand-up comics would be like, 'Well, take me to dim sum. I want to go to dim sum.'"

She continued: "Then we'd go to dim sum, and they'd be like, 'What is that?' 'Ew, what is that?' 'What is that?'

Wong revealed her annoyance with 'squeamish' people when it comes to eating Asian food.

"And they're basically asking, 'Why is that not a sandwich?' It's like, 'You asked me to take you here!'"

She concluded her confession: "Also, with dim sum, it's all pork and shrimp. Just eat it!"

The actor went on to explain the heart of the issue was that 'people are squeamish and 'ask a ton of questions'.

Clarkson alerted her guest that she wasn't that kind of picky eater, insisting: "I'm not that person, I will generally try anything."

Wong reassured the host: "As long as you'll try.

"But it's mostly just all the questions, you know? It's more when people are squeamish."

In total agreement with Wong, Clarkson also revealed her similar annoyance of when people 'food shame' others or 'yuck your yum'.

"Why did you just 'yuck' my food? Now I've gotta eat it and you just verbally barfed on it!" she added.

Wong's honesty has since struck home with many fans on social media who have flocked to share their praise for how 'real' the actor's candour was.

It seems that the star's beef is definitely a very relatable one.

Beef is currently available to stream on Netflix.
