A woman has left people divided after explaining why she only showers twice a week.

With New Year's right around the corner, many of you will be turning your attention to those resolutions (knowing full well you probably won't keep them).

While some might be quitting vaping or doing Dry January, others might be looking to make use of all those bath and shower gift sets they got from distant relatives for the holidays.

But one person who probably won't be doing the latter is a woman named Allison, who recently took to TikTok to reveal her minimal shower routine. Check it out:

The 27-year-old explained: "So I've recently found out that I am in fact a gross human being and this is because most girls, when they say that they wash their hair twice a week, they literally mean wash their hair – and they shower every day.

"I only shower once or twice a week. I've gone five days without showering before."

Although it might seem like the obvious answer, her infrequent showering habits have nothing to do with energy bills.

"If I'm getting in the shower, I'm going to wash my hair," she explained.

No judgement from us, but has she never heard of a shower cap?

Allison continued: "Why would I get in the shower and not wash my hair? But I don't want to wash my hair every day.

"So I've had to start saying that I 'wash my hair twice a week' - but I only shower twice a week."

The TikToker's revelation has sparked a lively debate online - clearly personal hygiene is a hot topic.

Alongside more than 6.5 million views, the clip has received thousands of comments, with some people siding with Allison.

"THIS IS RELATABLE," wrote one, while another said: "If I’m not leaving the house you bet I’m not showering every day."

A third added: "Girl same. These comments are wild. Natural body oils is a good thing. Y'all showering everyday must be stinky people without it."

Not everyone agrees, however, including this person who said: "The comments saying showering is exhausting, grab a loofah add some soap and scrub it’s less than 5 mins, without hair washing, laawwddd."

"The amount of people not washing in these comments… is sad," commented another, with a third writing: "No way you just posted this information about yourself."

Despite the slew of people bashing the TikToker, clearly it's water off a duck's back, so to speak.

Allison stands by her opinion.

In a follow-up video, Allison pasted one of the comments and said: "I am sorry that I had to be the one to break the news to you, but I think it goes to show that this is more common than people think.

"But they just aren't talking about it and I unfortunately decided to talk about it.

"I also think it shows though that you aren't noticing that all these people aren't showering because we don't smell."

She added: "I'm sure there are people who don't shower and smell, but I don't smell and I don't need to wash my hair, so why would I shower?"

Guess it's a classic case of each to their own.
