Two sets of identical twins married each other making their children ‘genetically sisters’

It's as confusing as you'd expect

You may need to sit down for this one folks as it's going to be quite the rollercoaster...

Without trying to sound like the very confusing scene from Friends where Phoebe says 'they know that we know that they know', some twins married another pair of twins and now their kids are practically twins too.

Identical twin sisters Kerissa and Vanessa historically never had the same taste in men, until they were set up on a blind date with fellow identical twins, Lucas and Jacob.

The date happened in June 2020, with Kerissa and Jacob getting engaged a year later and Vanessa and Lucas quickly following suit.

Fast forward to 2024 and both couples are now married and have both welcomed daughters.

Kerissa documents her life on TikTok, with one recent clip going viral as it was revealed that her daughter and Vanessa's daughter are 'genetically siblings'.

In the video that has generated almost three million views, Kerissa says and she stands by her sister: "We're twins, of course we married twins."

Panning to show Jacob and Lucas, to two brothers quip: "We're twins who married twins, of course we know which one our wife is."

While this had already got people invested in their lives, it was the next part that really blew people's minds.

Holding the respective daughters, Jacob and Lucas go on to say: "We're twins who married twins, of course our kids are genetically siblings."

If you're confused, you're not alone as many TikTokers have raised an array of questions.

One person asked: "So their uncles are their dads? Or is their cousins are there brothers? I’m confused?"

"The generic thing is crazy and I understand it but my brain is also like no you don’t," said another.

A third pondered: "So if you’re identical, and they’re identical. Your kids are technically siblings no?"

Replying to this, Kerissa said that's correct and that's because, while Kerissa and Vanessa's little girls are cousins, they're actually genetically sisters.

According to a study conducted at the University of Minnesota, children in situations like this are legally cousins, but genetically half-siblings.

The university's website says: "Like for their twin parents, there are many fascinating family relationships for the children of twins – when identical twins have children, their children are cousins but genetically as similar as half-siblings."

There's over a year between both Vanessa and Kerissa's kids and, had they been born within nine months of each other, the two tots would have been classed as quaternary twins.
