Dreams can be confusing at the best of times and while they feel vivid at the time, the memory of them can fade just minutes after waking up.

A July 2023 research project by Morning Life has revealed what the most common dreams people are Googling about across the world. In addition to this, it also dived into the possible meanings behind these dreams.

“The world dreams of snakes. More countries most commonly dream of snakes than any other topic, and it is the most common in more than 1/3 of the countries we surveyed (52 out of 147),” Morning Life said in a report.

“Snake dreams are particularly ‘popular’ across Eastern Europe and parts of Asia and Africa.”

The second most Googled dream in the world was of losing your teeth. This proved to be the most popular dream of multiple North American countries as well as those in Europe.

The project also looked specifically at the most common dreams Googled by those in the UK compared to those in the US and while there are expected similarities, there are surprising differences.

In the UK over a monthly period, the most Googled dream was teeth falling out, with over 41,000 searches. In a distanced second was snakes at 3,500 searches and hair falling out was in third at 2,300.

Dreams involving flies came fourth, sex came fifth, an ex-partner came sixth, fire came seventh, giving birth came eighth, a wedding dress came ninth and spiders or pregnancy were joint tenth.

In the US over a monthly period, the most Googled dream was also teeth falling out with 81,000 searches. In second was snakes with 19,400 searches, an ex partner was third at 17,000.

Dreams involving spiders came fourth, vacation came fifth, being chased came sixth, a wedding came seventh, flies came eighth, sex came ninth and bears came tenth.

Now what any of these dreams mean for certain is a hotly debated topic and the attempt to find deeper meaning within dreams has been ongoing since the beginning of recorded history.

However, in an attempt to make sense of it all, Morning Life turned to the dream interpretation website dreammoods.com to get some form of perspective.

Dreams about teeth falling out could 'signifiy a lack of self-confidence or embarrassment about your shortcomings', according to the website.

Snakes or snake bites in a dream may represent 'hidden fears or worries'. Dreams about an ex-partner could suggest 'someone in your current life brings out some of the same feelings you felt during that relationship'.

And dreams about pregnancy, according to the website, could 'symbolize an aspect of yourself that is growing or developing'.

Now regardless of whether you believe in their analysis or not, do your best to sleep easy tonight.
