Parents have been warned that having a 'baby on board' sticker could make them a target for a few simple reasons.
When it comes to raising a child there are quite a lot of things to be wary of as the dangers of the world can come at you and your family rather quickly.
With that said, something most parents wouldn’t think twice about has long caused a heated debate on social media; placing the ‘baby on board’ stickers on your car.
Now there are two ongoing ideas surrounding the sticker and if internet lore is anything to really go by, it's not quite clear if both or neither are true.

All the same, one idea is that the sticker is there to ensure other drivers realize there is a baby or young child in the car, and that they should drive more cautiously.
The other idea is that first responders find these stickers useful as it means in the event of an emergency like a car crash, they know to look for a baby or young child both in the vehicle and the surrounding area.

Now, regardless which is true, parents have been warned that the sticker could open up parents to other issues.
Back in 2023, the Allen County Sheriff’s office Department highlighted that the sticker can signal to other people that you are ‘likely distracted and an easy target’.
This is likely tied to the idea that while driving you will have to deal with your young child and that you have another point of responsibility should a situation occur.
On social media other people have agreed with this point and highlighted other potential risks the sticker brings.
The sign could signal to opportunist criminals that you have expensive baby and child items either in the car or at your home.
In the most extreme cases this could also signal to child predators and traffickers that you have a child with you.

A TikTok video by user livdefrance showed her taking off the sticker as she revealed she had recently become aware of the potential dangers.
One user in the comments wrote: “Sad but true, there are some scary predators out there, don’t bring attention to yourself”
Another added: “drives me mad when I see these types of stickers in cars, stop advertising your kids.”
With a third writing: “Seen some with the children's names on them please people for the love of God so not stick those on your car.”
