Dallas tops list of cities for cheaters in the United States

The study used data from the US Census Bureau and a number of factors, such as Google searches for affairs, to rank 200 major cities

Dallas has picked up the gold medal in a study looking into cheater rates in US cities.

My Dating Adviser - a website which, unsurprisingly, offers dating advice - has put together a so-called 'Infidelity Index', using data from the US Census Bureau across 200 major cities.

Obviously, it is pretty much impossible to establish how many cheaters live in any given city. People aren't broadly polled on their fidelity, and even if they were, you'd probably find that 100 percent of people in every city the world over said they were faithful.

As such, the dating advice site decided to assess the data across a range of relevant areas to determine where has the most cheaters per capita.

The site explained: "The study factored in the population's relationship satisfaction by looking at marriage, divorce, and separation rates.

"In addition, the population's life satisfaction by evaluating emotional and physical well-being, work environment, and community.

"We also looked at the number of venues to meet for an affair, and the volume of searches on Google for affair hookup websites was also considered for the rankings."

Evidently, this isn't the kind of study that is gonna be peer-reviewed, but the results are still interesting.

Coming out on top was Dallas, Texas, where the marriage rate is 47 percent, the divorce rate is 12 percent, the separation rate is two percent, the Happiness Index score is 49.00, and the Google Search Interest for an Affair score is 32.85.

Now, at this point, you're probably wondering how exactly this data indicates that Dallas has the most cheaters per capita - and how the hell does one calculate a 'Google Search Interest for an Affair' score?

Well, fair play to the people behind the study, they put a lot of thought into their methodology.

The guiding principle was that you cannot empirically verify how many cheaters there are in any given city, but someone vulnerable to temptation is more likely to have an affair if they're living in a city with a higher Infidelity Index.

The study considered a range of factors to create the 'Infidelity Index'.

Elaborating on this methodology, the site explained: "We compared 200 of the largest metro areas across four key dimensions: 1) Relationship Satisfaction, 2) Life Satisfaction, 3) Infidelity Intent, and 4) Affair Activities.

"We evaluated each of those dimensions using nine relevant metrics of infidelity friendliness. The metrics were combined to create a 100-point scale, with a score of 100 representing the most favourable conditions for having an affair.

"We determined each location's weighted average across all metrics to calculate its overall score and used the resulting scores to rank-order our sample."

Bizarrely, the study found that Fort Worth came in second for unfaithfulness, while Houston came in third - so that's Texas clinching all the medals in the cheater Olympics.

Rounding out the top ten were St Louis, Missouri; Nashville, Tennessee; Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; New York; Knoxville, Tennessee; Atlanta, Georgia; and Washington, D.C.

The most faithful cities in the US were Pasadena, California; Torrance, California; and Roseville, California.
