Whoopi Goldberg has made her thoughts on Elon Musk's $44 billion Twitter takeover clear by announcing she's 'done' with the platform.

Describing the new ownership a 'mess' during a segment on The View, panelist Goldberg listed all the reasons why she's bidding farewell to Twitter once and for all.

Citing that the billionaire 'called back some of the workforce he fired a few days ago' and that he 'suspended Kathy Griffin for impersonating him on a parody account' as well as the plans around the fee for blue tick verification, the star did not hold back.

"I’m getting off today because I just feel like, you know, it’s so messy and I’m tired of now having had certain kinds of attitudes blocked and now they’re back on," the Sister Act star announced.

The 66-year-old hasn't ruled out returning to Twitter if the situation is settled in the future. She continued: "I’m just gonna get out and if it settles down and I feel more comfortable, maybe I’ll come back. But as of tonight, I’m done with Twitter."

Co-host Sunny Hostin described the social media app as 'such a hellscape.' and revealed she stopped reading it a while ago. On the flipside she admitted she had learned about some social movements through Twitter, leaving her torn about whether to continue using it.

"You’ve got this Elon Musk turning it into something it was never intended to be,” Hostin declared. “He says it’s gonna be the public square. Well I don’t want to be a part of that public square but I also don’t want to miss the valuable information that can be put on there.”

Soon after acquiring the social networking company, Musk, 51, said he would be launching a paid version of Twitter Blue to offer users of the platform 'exclusive access to premium features' costing $7.99 (£6.97) each month

On Saturday (5 November) Musk said the service would go live nationwide, however users will now reportedly have to wait to become verified, with Musk having allegedly pushed back the rollout of the well sought after blue ticks.

According to two 'internal sources' and an internal Slack channel reviewed by the New York Times, the launch has been pushed back by four days.

The social media platform has also let go of almost half its workforce due to a 'massive drop in revenue', according to Musk.

Twitter's new owner previously tweeted that the 'company is losing over $4m/day'.

However, it appears that the company is allegedly re-hiring some of the employees that were let go, Bloomberg reports.

The publication said that 'according to two people familiar with the moves', some employees were laid off 'by mistake'.
