Tyra Banks has said she only recently had her first alcoholic drink at the age of 50, and she wasn't impressed.

For people across the world, drinking alcohol isn’t a big deal and many celebrate their birthdays at their legal drinking age... well, with a drink.

Some love the taste, others the sensation, the creativity that goes into making some drinks, whatever it is, for a lot of people across the globe, drinking is a regular and normal thing.

But model Tyra Banks has said she had her first alcoholic drink when she turned 50-years-old.

“I could not wait to be 50,” Banks told the publication. “I felt it was a rite of passage to be my true self. I like to challenge misconceptions about aging by saying, ‘Child, I’m 50!’”

“My mom and my best friend surprised me there, and it was so magical. We took a seaplane, had a meal in the middle of nowhere. I even had an alcoholic drink for the first time! It wasn’t worth it. I was like, ‘This is nasty!’”

In 2011, Banks revealed her reasoning behind not drinking, saying to Forbes: "I feel like I've been very lucky because I don't really have an addictive personality. I've never had any drugs, and I had a little taste of alcohol when I was 12 years old, but that's about it."

So it seems unlikely you’ll run into Banks at your local anytime soon!

On her birthday in December, Banks also shared her positive outlook on aging and encouraged her followers on social media to adopt it as well.

Writing on Instagram, she said: “50. I can't believe I've been on this earth that many years. I remember like yesterday my mom's 50th birthday party and we celebrated her in the biggest way. It was a big one. And now it's mine.

"So many fear getting older. That’s understandable. Things just aren't the same anymore. Our bodies. Our energy. Our minds. But I gotta say, my mind is FIERCER THAN EVER. Wise, baby.

But still… I think we have to look at aging and these big milestone years like, 'I GET to be that age.' A Blessing."

She continued to encourage her followers to make the most of each day and strive to be the best version of themselves in everything they do.

“If you're younger than me, I HOPE you get to reach my age and BEYOND. Because it feels damn good.

“Wise words from Auntie TyTy: You don't have to stay stuck. You can start off doing one thing, and as the years go by, you switch that ish up.

"Yeah, I started in the fashion world and did the whole magazine covers, catwalks and couture thing and more but I have pivoted, baby. Again. You can 2. Can't stop. Won't stop. You hear me?!"
