SNL takes swipe at Morgan Wallen after he abruptly walked off stage during show credits

Seems like SNL isn't going to let things slide

Saturday Night Live took last night as an opportunity to talk about the morgan Wallen controversy and included a series of jokes about the incident.

Last week, country singer Morgan Wallen was the guest star on SNL and performed two of his songs while on the show, with no problem at all.

But the controversy arose when the star made a quick exit from the stage just as the show credits were rolling.

For those not familiar, it's in this moment where the staff, cast member and guests tend to hang around on stage chatting and hugging after successful night.

Wallen seemingly had other plans and seemed to backdoor it, with him later taking to social media to show a picture of his private jet saying: "Get me to God’s country," in reference to Texas.

In last night's show (April 5), the cast members decided to poke fun at the whole situation.

During his Weekend Update segment, comedian Colin Jost said: “This was the worst week for the stock market since the summer of 2020. But you have to remember — back then — the president was also Trump.

“Just in the past two days, investors have lost over $6 trillion. Money is leaving the stock market faster than Morgan Wallen at goodnights.”

But the show didn’t poke fun just once - nope, there was a slight dig at Wallen at the beginning of the show as well.

During the cold open James Austin Johnson - playing President Donald Trump - referenced Wallen’s 'God’s country' social media comment.

He said: "I even put tariffs on an island uninhabited by humans. It’s called Heard and McDonald Island.

"McDonald Island. I would love to visit there. Can you imagine that? Big Mac and a hula skirt. Get me to God’s country, right? Remember that?"

While some of the cast were happy to poke fun at the whole Wallen scenario, long-standing cast member Kenan Thompson seemed to take issue with the God’s country comment.

He said: "The 'God's country' of it all is strange because it's like, what are you trying to say? You trying to say that we are not in God's country? We're not all in God's country? We're not all under God's umbrella? That's not necessarily my favorite."

"I don't know what goes through people's minds when they decide to do stuff like that," Thompson continued. "I don't know if he understood the assignment or not, or if he was really feeling a certain kind of way."

LADbible Group has previously contacted Wallen for comment.
