Timothée Chalamet is being praised for his blunt response after he was asked an awkward question on the Oscars red carpet.

The 29-year-old actor turned heads during his appearance at the 97th Academy Awards ceremony at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood last night (Sunday, March 2).

Not only did he seem to hog the limelight in his all-yellow custom Givenchy suit on the red carpet, but the Wonka star also stole some cutesy moments with his girlfriend, Kylie Jenner, from the front row of the show.

Now, he's going viral again for what appears to be a somewhat awkward red carpet moment - though Chalamet kept his cool.

He was talking to Julianne Hough in a pre-Oscars interview about his performance as Bob Dylan in the 2024 biopic, A Complete Unknown, which saw him nominated for Best Actor.

However, things took a strange turn when Hough bizarrely asked if he could do a remake of his Saturday Night Live performance from five years ago.

In the unforgettable skit, Chalamet portrayed a fictional 'SoundCloud' rapper, during which he uttered incomprehensible phrases and lyrics while shouting 'skrt' and 'skeet'.

Hough said: "I was hoping that maybe you could do the 'skrt, skeet' in like, Bob Dylan."

But the movie star snapped back without skipping a beat: "You know what? I'm gonna need a cheque."

The moment has since been doing the rounds on social media which dozens taking to Twitter to weigh in on the cringe moment.

"'Dance for me, monkey' is a tactic that 9 times out of 10 will not go over the way the interviewer thinks it might," read one comment.

"Love that he said that. He’s given so much during the awards campaign and shows. Enough with asking him to perform on cue," said a second.

Another wrote: "lol sorry to this woman but what a dumb question."

A fifth fan said his response to the question was hilarious, adding: "His reply is killing me."

The hilarious clip comes as Chalamet lost out on a golden statue this year to Adrien Brody for his role in the post-war epic movie, The Brutalist.

Brody also defended his title as the youngest person to ever win the Best Actor Oscar, after he took home the trophy in 2003 at the age of 29 and 343 days.

However, Chalamet did receive the Outstanding Performance by a Male Actor in a Leading Role Award for his performance as Bob Dylan at the Screen Actors Awards Guild last month and stands as the youngest person to have won the category at the SAG Awards.

In his acceptance speech, the actor said he 'poured everything' into playing the late singer-songwriter and called the inspirational star an 'incomparable artist' and 'true American hero.'

"It was the honor of a lifetime playing him," Chalamet added.
