Noah Schnapp has spoken about coming out to his co-star, Millie Bobby Brown.

The Stranger Things actors are close friends both on and off screen, so it’s unsurprising that Brown had a pretty heartwarming reaction to the news.

However, Schnapp did admit that not everything went to plan when he finally told her he was gay.

Rather sweetly, the 18-year-old made a list of people he wanted to tell in person.

Among them was his Stranger Things co-star, but due to his and Brown’s hectic schedules, they struggled to find the time.

“I kept trying to do it in person with her, and it was too hard,” he told Variety, admitting that he had to resort to a video call instead.

Eager to tell his friend the news, Schnapp randomly decided to call her from a branch of the US fancy dress store, Party City.

He added: “So then I just FaceTimed her one day in the middle of a Party City and I was like, "Millie, I’m gay." And she was like, ‘Oh, Schnapper! You told me finally!’"

During the interview, he revealed that he’d always known his on-screener alter-ego, Will Byer, was also gay.

“It was always kind of there, but you never really knew, is it just him growing up slower than his friends?” he said during the interview.

In fact, Schnapp even mentioned the iconic character when he came out publicly earlier this year.

Taking to social media in January, the actor posted an image of himself in bed with a message above him.

It read: “When I finally told my friends and family I was gay after being scared in the closet for 18 years and all they said was ‘we know.’”

“I guess I'm more similar to Will Byers than I thought!” he then captioned the post.

Whilst his loved ones were very accepting, Schnapp was naturally a little nervous about how the rest of the world would react – even putting his phone away to avoid seeing hurtful comments.

“I just wanted to put it away and be confident in who I am and know that I don’t have to care what people think anymore,” he confessed.

Thankfully, he was pleasantly surprised when he did open his phone, with an outpouring of love for the young actor.

When I opened my phone at the end of the car ride, it was, like, a thousand texts of hearts and congratulations and rainbow flags,” he happily recalled.

“I was crying. I was like, ‘I made it. I’m done. I don’t have to worry'."
