Jennifer Garner’s question about Regina King's family ancestry is going viral after resurfacing online

Despite the clip first airing in 2017, many fans are only just seeing the awkward interaction between Regina King and Jennifer Garner

Jennifer Garner has been heavily criticised after a clip resurfaced of her questioning Regina King about her ancestors.

The Daredevil star has come under fire for comments she made during an episode of Dinner Party: My American Experience.

Netflix says that during the episode the celebrities will sit down to 'discuss their roots, patriotism, religion, and modern America's complexities'.

Despite the series airing in 2017, the clip of the interaction has resurfaced, with many fans calling out the actor online.

The Netflix show brings a whole host of stars to the table, including Rob Riggle, Mary McCormack and Dan Savage, with the party guests discussing their roots.

With comedian Chelsea Handler at the head of the table, it should have been a light-hearted moment between the A-listers.

Like all dinner parties though, things don’t exactly go to plan.

Actor Regina King begins recalling her childhood spent in LA, proudly telling other guests that she was ‘born and bred’ in the city.

Continuing, she says: “It's, I think, a very cool thing and I kind of wear it on my chest very proudly because so many people say, 'Oh, LA is this and LA is that,' and I'm like, well, you're not from LA, so you don't really know it."

It's then that Garner asks: "But do you know where your ancestors are from?"

King tries to laugh off the question and says: "Well, yeah…. They were part of the triangle slave trade. From Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Senegal, but my parents are both from the South."

The moment has garnered a lot of backlash after the clip recently resurfaced and was watched by 15.6 million Twitter users.

In the comments under the now-viral video, one person accused the 13 Going On 30 actor of being racist for her response to King.

The episode aired back in 2017.

“Jennifer Garner, a white woman from TX, asking an African American woman where her ancestors came from because Regina said she is a LA native is completely racist and disgusting,” they wrote.

Continuing, they added: “Regina is better than me. It would have gotten REAL NASTY had she asked me that at this dinner table.”

Another hit out at the A-lister, saying: “Jennifer Garner is so trash for that question and Regina King is GOAT for her response.”

Shortly after this, a third argued that the actor had ‘killed her good girl rep’ with the comment and added: “…some people need to rly sit there and eat their food and mind their business.”

UNILAD has contacted Garner’s reps for comment.
