Jada Pinkett Smith opens up about chemistry with ‘soulmate’ Tupac Shakur

The actor opened up about the place musician Tupac Shakur holds in her life

Jada Pinkett Smith has opened up about the friendship she had with the late Tupac Shakur.

The actor and presenter called Tupac her 'soulmate' in an interview with Rolling Out ahead of her memoir, Worthy, being released.

This comes after the Red Table Talk host dropped the bombshell that she and husband Will Smith have been secretly separated for the last seven years.

Speaking about Tupac, while Jada maintained that she and the musician never dated, they became close friends after meeting in the 1980s at Baltimore School for the Arts.

She told Rolling Out: "If there is such a thing as past lives, I definitely think Pac and I have traveled a few together. You know, in various forms."

Although Pinkett Smith has admitted that the two did kiss, she maintains that they never had a relationship, saying they didn't have 'chemistry'.

Nonetheless she considers that in Tupac she had found a soulmate, explaining that she doesn't think that necessarily has to indicate a romantic relationship.

She said: "Absolutely, we have so many... our children can be our soulmates... I think the kind of romanticised idea of a soulmate... there's all kinds of definitions of soulmates."

In her upcoming book, she explains that there wasn't the chemistry to go any further, but the two nonetheless maintained a very close friendship.

She laughed as she explained to Rolling Out, saying: "Let me tell you I don't think Pac and I... We had those moments and I wish I could get people to understand the repelling nature.

"It was almost like God made us that way. He was like 'Look, we'll put y'all together, alright? Y'all gonna be a dynamic duo, but I'm gonna tell you right now, I'm gonna make it so you're not going to be able to get together.'

"'Cause that just wasn't the purpose, and I know it was so hard... and it wasn't just me, him, too."

Pinkett Smith married Will Smith in 1997. Although the pair have been legally married for two decades, it has recently been revealed that they have been separated for the last seven years, though they haven't divorced.

“We’re still figuring it out,” said Pinkett Smith. “A lot has happened. The thing about relationships is that it's constantly moving.

"Relationships are... it's an organism. It's its own thing. It's constantly shifting and constantly moving.

"There's a lot that's transpired in the last two years, and so we've been doing some really heavy-duty work together.”
