Miley Cyrus shut down rumors Liam Hemsworth cheated before releasing new single aimed at ex

Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth divorced in 2020, but she maintains there was no infidelity

Miley Cyrus has shut down rumors her ex-husband Liam Hemsworth had cheated on her before their split, having since released a new single widely considered to be about him.

Cyrus fans are convinced new song ‘Flowers’ is about the Aussie actor.

The 30-year-old singer released her new track on January 13 – which actually happens to be Hemsworth’s birthday – and sparked the whole thing off.

Lyrics from the chorus reading: "I can hold my own hand / Yeah, I can love me better than you can."

The song has renewed focus on the pair's relationship, with unsubstantiated rumors circulating on social media that Hemsworth was unfaithful during the relationship. But Cyrus previously confirmed this didn't happen.

The pair met on the set of The Last Song, starting a relationship that could be described as on/off before eventually getting married in 2018.

Then, they separated the following year, before finalising their divorce in 2020.

Whilst many people have suggested that the reason for that split was infidelity, Miley has previously tweeted to say that simply isn’t the case.

In the resurfaced tweets from 2019, Cyrus wrote: "But the truth is, once Liam & I reconciled, I meant it, & I was committed.

“There are NO secrets to uncover here.

“I’ve learned from every experience in my life.

"I’m not perfect, I don’t want to be, it’s boring.”

She added: "I’ve grown up in front of you, but the bottom line is, I HAVE GROWN UP."

In further tweets, she added: "I can admit to a lot of things but I refuse to admit that my marriage ended because of cheating.

“BUT at this point I had to make a healthy decision for myself to leave a previous life behind.

“I am the healthiest and happiest I have been in a long time.

“You can say I am a twerking, pot smoking , foul mouthed hillbilly but I am not a liar.”

Then, she concluded: "Liam and I have been together for a decade.

“I’ve said it before & it remains true, I love Liam and always will.”

Whatever it is about, ‘Flowers’ seems to be another hit for Miley, who is no stranger to chart success.

She’s also set to release an album in the next few months, so maybe there’ll be more stories to come.

Either way, it’s become the most streamed song ever in a single week on Spotify since it was released this time last week, so fans are onboard.

Maybe it ain’t about the story behind it, perhaps for Miley’s fans it’s just about the music.
