Hollywood A-listers have been revealed to be among the witness list for Johnny Depp and Amber Heard's defamation case.

The names have been revealed as Depp's defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife is scheduled for April 11, in Fairfax County, Virginia, after Heard tried to have the case thrown out four times.

Depp is suing Heard for a potential $50 million, claiming that she caused damage to his career.

Heard is countersuing Depp for $100 million.

The defamation case centres around an op-ed that Heard wrote for the Washington Post in 2018.

Heard's tweet sharing the article at the time read, 'Today I published this op-ed in the Washington Post about the women who are channeling their rage about violence and inequality into political strength despite the price of coming forward. From college campuses to Congress, we're balancing the scales.'

In the article she described herself as a victim of domestic violence.

The piece does not reference Depp by name, though he felt it was enough to file a lawsuit against her.

As the date for the case approaches, witnesses for both parties are now being revealed; among them are James Franco, Elon Musk and Paul Bettany.

Musk and Franco are said to be on Heard's witness list, after Depp alleged that she had an affair with each of them while they were married.

Ellen Barkin, from Animal Kingdom, will also be on Heard's witness list, along with representatives from Disney, Warner Brothers and the LAPD.

According to TMZ, there are also emails between Depp and JK Rowling, as well as Jack White, that will be addressed.

Paul Bettany is also said to be testifying on Depp's behalf.

Bettany had previously told The Sunday Times what is was like having his 2013 correspondence with Depp read out in a previous court hearing.

Bettany called the situation at the time 'embarrassing'. 'And we live in a world without context. I didn’t know Johnny when he was married to Amber. I knew him before. But we hadn’t spoken for years. During the marriage I didn’t know them. So I wasn’t around for any of that,' he added.

'The only real way to deal with this elegantly is to say: I’m not sure there’s anybody who has one of these devices [a smartphone] that would feel comfortable having a team of lawyers scour their private text messages,' Bettany said.

Depp previously lost a lawsuit for libel against The Sun after the paper called him a 'wife-beater'. He is now suing Heard for defamation, claiming he has lost work in Hollywood because of the situation. Heard is countersuing him, also for defamation.
